To turn it off, return to that menu and select Off, Native, or another non-DLSS option if the game offers one. Menu labels and available features vary by title.
Enable DLSS in the game’s settings
- Launch the game and open Settings or Options.
- Look under Graphics, Video, Display, or a section named for upscaling. The menu path differs from game to game.
- Find the DLSS feature you want to use. A game may offer one or several DLSS options, rather than a single switch.
- Turn on the feature and choose an available mode, such as Quality, Balanced, or Performance, if the game provides those choices.
- Apply the change. Restart or reload the game only if it prompts you to do so.
NVIDIA says that games with native DLSS support usually provide settings to enable its DLSS technologies in the game, without additional system configuration. NVIDIA’s DLSS override guidance also emphasizes that controls and options vary by game and engine.

Know which DLSS feature you are changing
“DLSS” refers to several technologies. A game may expose only some of them, and switching one off does not necessarily switch off the others.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Super Resolution renders at a lower input resolution and scales the image to improve performance.
- Frame Generation generates additional frames; it may have its own separate in-game setting.
- Ray Reconstruction is a separate option in games that support it.
- DLAA uses DLSS technology for anti-aliasing at native resolution rather than as a lower-resolution upscaling mode.
Available Super Resolution modes can trade image quality for performance. In NVIDIA’s published scaling example, Quality uses 67% input resolution, Balanced is between Quality and Performance, Performance uses 50%, and Ultra Performance uses 33%; DLAA uses 100%. These are NVIDIA’s example values, not guaranteed settings for every game. Check NVIDIA’s guidance and the options shown by your game.

Disable DLSS in the game
- Return to the game’s graphics, video, or upscaling menu.
- Set the specific DLSS feature you want to stop using to Off, Native, or a non-DLSS alternative, if available.
- Apply the setting and follow any restart prompt shown by the game.
If the game lists Super Resolution, Frame Generation, or Ray Reconstruction separately, change each one you want to disable. Turning off one does not necessarily affect the others.
Adjust a compatible NVIDIA app override
The NVIDIA app provides driver-level DLSS overrides for supported games. These controls are separate from the game’s own settings, and some overrides only apply when the corresponding in-game feature is enabled.

- Open the NVIDIA app and select Graphics.
- Choose Global Settings to configure compatible titles globally, or open Program Settings and select a game to change it individually.
- Open Driver Settings and change the relevant DLSS Override option.
- Check the game’s settings too: NVIDIA notes that certain overrides require the matching game feature, such as Frame Generation or Super Resolution, to be on.
Override availability depends on the specific feature, game, and hardware. NVIDIA describes Multi Frame Generation override for RTX 50-series GPUs, its Frame Generation model upgrade for RTX 40- and 50-series GPUs, and transformer model upgrades for GeForce RTX GPUs. Those requirements apply to the named override features; they are not a blanket statement about every form of DLSS. Consult NVIDIA’s current feature guidance for supported titles and requirements.
Check whether an override is active
In a supported game, press Alt+Z to open the NVIDIA overlay, then go to Statistics > Statistics View > DLSS to display override status. Alt+R toggles the configured statistics display. This view reports override status; it does not replace the game’s own graphics menu. NVIDIA documents the overlay steps here.

If the DLSS option is missing
- Confirm that the game supports the particular DLSS feature you are looking for; support for one DLSS technology does not imply support for all of them.
- Check other graphics, display, or upscaling sections, since menu names and placement vary by title and engine.
- For an NVIDIA app override, verify that the game and GPU meet that specific override’s requirements and that any corresponding in-game feature is enabled.
- Check current NVIDIA app and driver information, because the available override options and supported-title lists can change. NVIDIA’s DLSS guidance and app documentation describe the relevant features and controls.
A GPU upgrade is not needed just to use a game’s ordinary native DLSS toggle; hardware requirements matter only when the particular game feature or driver override requires them.
