To turn Bing search suggestions on or off, open Bing Settings, choose Search, then select or clear See search suggestions as you type. Select the checkbox to show suggestions; clear it to stop them appearing as you type.
Change the Bing search suggestions setting
- Open Bing and go to its Settings page.
- Choose Search.
- Find See search suggestions as you type.
- Select the checkbox to turn suggestions on, or clear it to turn them off.
Microsoft says suggestions stay off until you clear your cookies or turn them back on. Some features may not be available in every country or region. Its support instructions describe the Bing setting without separate procedures for desktop, mobile, browser, or account types.

What the setting controls
Bing search suggestions, also called autosuggest, display query ideas as you begin typing. Microsoft says the suggestions are generated algorithmically using the popularity of related searches and relevance signals such as search history, trends, location, and language. Microsoft’s explanation of how Bing delivers search results was last updated in March 2025.

Search suggestions are separate from search history
Turning suggestions off does not turn off Bing search history. History has its own control on the Bing search history page. Microsoft says switching that history setting off stops new searches from being added, but does not delete searches already recorded. Choose the suggestions checkbox to control what appears while typing; use the history control if you want to manage recording of searches.
