Enable loot respawn by editing the active world’s SandboxSettings.ini, adding LootRespawnEnabled=True beneath a [SandboxSettings] header, saving the file, and restarting (or reloading) the server. On a dedicated server, the file belongs in AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/<your world>/. If it is missing, create a plain-text file with that exact name.

Find the active world save
For a self-managed dedicated server, start at the server’s installation directory and open:
AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/<Your Save Name>/Replace <Your Save Name> with the folder for the world your server actually launches. Editing another world’s folder will not change the world your players enter.
Before changing anything, record the current save name and make a backup copy of the existing SandboxSettings.ini. A backup gives you a quick way to undo the setting if the world behaves unexpectedly.

Enable respawn on a self-managed dedicated server
- Stop the server if necessary. Many server processes keep configuration files open or overwrite them during shutdown. If your setup requires the process to be offline for edits, stop it cleanly first.
- Open the world folder. Navigate to
AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/<Your Save Name>/. - Open or create the file. Locate
SandboxSettings.ini. If it is absent, create a new plain-text file with that exact filename. Check that your editor has not added an extra extension such as.txt. - Check the section header. Keep or add
[SandboxSettings]on its own line. The key must be inside this section. - Set the key. Add or edit the line
LootRespawnEnabled=True. Match the spelling and capitalization exactly; do not substitute spaces, hyphens, or a different key name. - Save the file. Close the editor only after the save operation has completed.
- Start or restart the server. If it was already running, restart it. If your host or management script supports a configuration reload, use that only when it is documented to reload sandbox settings.
- Join the same world and observe normal play. Verify that resource behavior changes over time. The available reference material does not establish a fixed respawn interval, so do not use a particular number of minutes as a pass/fail test.
Enable it through a hosting control panel
Managed hosts expose the same file through a web-based Files or File Manager view. The labels differ, but the underlying edit is identical.
For a hosted Abiotic Factor server, Godlike.Host’s Abiotic Factor hosting provides a Pterodactyl-based game panel and SFTP/FTP access for reaching configuration files. Not on the Abiotic Factor dedicated server wiki’s list of Verified Server Providers (github.com/DFJacob/AbioticFactorDedicatedServer, 10 Oct 2026).
- Open your server’s control panel and select Files, File Manager, or the equivalent file browser.
- Stop the server if the provider requires an offline state for file edits.
- Browse to
AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/<Your Save Name>/. - Open
SandboxSettings.ini. If it is missing, use the panel’s new-file action to create a plain-text file with that exact name. - Ensure the file has a
[SandboxSettings]section and setLootRespawnEnabled=True. - Use the panel’s save action, then start or restart the server.
- Reconnect to the intended world and check resource behavior during ordinary gameplay.
Some providers place save files under a customized configuration root or provide a dedicated sandbox-settings editor. Follow the provider’s current path or interface in that case, while preserving the same section, key, and value.

What loot respawn does—and what it does not do

These limitations matter when deciding whether to enable the option for a cooperative group. The feature is broader than restoring one missing item: it can add resources throughout the Facility and may create awkward object placement or a more plentiful economy.

Use a short checklist rather than relying on the file timestamp alone:
- Confirm you edited the folder for the world the server starts, not an unused or older save.
- Reopen the file and verify the section is spelled
[SandboxSettings]. - Verify the key is exactly
LootRespawnEnabled=True, with no quotation marks or trailing explanatory text. - Check that the file is named
SandboxSettings.ini, notSandboxSettings.ini.txt. - Save, then restart the server or perform the provider’s documented reload.
- Join after the restart and test during normal play. Lack of an immediate change does not prove failure because no official fixed timer is stated.
Troubleshooting when resources do not respawn
The setting appears to have no effect
Start with the active-world check. A correctly edited file in a different save folder has no effect on the world you joined. Next, confirm the server was restarted after the save. A process that stayed online may still be using its previous in-memory settings.

The file is ignored or cannot be found
Check the filename and extension in the file manager. It must be a plain-text SandboxSettings.ini inside the world folder. If the provider uses a custom root, use its current file path while retaining the same world-folder structure beneath that root.
The key is not recognized
Check capitalization and spelling character by character: LootRespawnEnabled=True. Keep the [SandboxSettings] header and place the key beneath it. Remove duplicate versions of the key so there is one clear value for the server to read.

Only furniture is missing
That is expected. This option concerns resources; the documented behavior specifically excludes furniture.
Objects appear in odd positions
Intersections and floating objects are known cautions for this setting. If those effects disrupt the world, stop the server, change the value back to False, save, and restart. Your backup can restore the prior file if needed.
The world feels too easy
More available resources can change the intended gathering balance. Treat that as a design choice for your group rather than a configuration error. Disable the option using the same edit-and-restart process if the economy becomes excessive.

Neither workflow changes the setting itself. The important parts are the active world folder, exact INI syntax, a saved file, and a restart or supported reload.
When to leave loot respawn disabled
Keep the default value when your group wants the original scarcity, when floating or intersecting objects would be disruptive, or when a more generous resource supply would undermine your server’s progression. Enable it when recurring resource availability is worth those trade-offs and everyone playing on the world understands that furniture will not return.
There is no separate command, mod, or hardware requirement in the documented procedure. The change is a world-save configuration edit, so access to the active save folder and permission to restart or reload the server are the practical requirements.
