Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To enable live streaming on a new YouTube channel, verify the channel with a phone number, turn on live streaming in YouTube Studio, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. You also need to have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Streaming from the YouTube mobile app has extra requirements, including at least 50 subscribers; the computer options are webcam or encoder streaming.
Enable live streaming on your channel
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer. Sign in to the YouTube channel you want to stream from and select the live-streaming option to turn it on. YouTube lists enabling live streaming as the first setup step. See YouTube’s computer live-streaming overview.
- Verify the channel if prompted. Enter a phone number, choose text message or voice call, and submit the verification code YouTube sends. YouTube explains channel verification here.
- Wait for activation. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours after you turn the feature on. If it is not available immediately, wait before troubleshooting further. YouTube’s live-streaming Help page gives the activation timing.
- Choose how to stream once activated. On a computer, YouTube offers webcam streaming or streaming through encoding software. For mobile streaming, use the YouTube app’s Create > Live flow; enter the stream details and tap Go live.
Check eligibility before choosing a device
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. Its computer streaming overview does not state a subscriber minimum for webcam or encoder streaming. The 50-subscriber threshold applies to mobile live streaming, not to the general channel activation steps.

| Method | Requirements stated by YouTube | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Computer: webcam or encoder | Verified channel; no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The computer overview does not state a subscriber minimum. | Choose webcam or encoding software after activation. |
| Mobile app | At least 50 subscribers, verified channel, live streaming enabled, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+. | Channels with over 50 but under 1,000 subscribers may have viewer limits; their mobile stream archives default to private. |
These requirements and mobile-specific limitations are described in YouTube’s mobile live-streaming guidance. A webcam or encoder is not necessary to enable live streaming; use the computer or mobile method that fits your setup and eligibility.
If live streaming is still unavailable
- It has not been 24 hours: first-time activation may still be processing. Wait until the activation period has elapsed.
- The channel is not verified: complete phone verification and enter the code sent by text or voice call.
- There was a recent restriction: YouTube requires no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check the channel’s status rather than assuming a device change will bypass the requirement.
- You are trying to use a phone: confirm the channel has at least 50 subscribers and the phone meets the supported operating-system requirements. If it does not meet the mobile criteria, use a computer option if available.
- You meet the listed conditions but access remains unavailable: recheck the channel and method requirements in YouTube Help. The official guidance does not guarantee that a particular support request or appeal will restore access.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream after you have access to live streaming, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera. Start the free day.
