A 24/7 YouTube music stream sends an already ordered, encoded broadcast, so YouTube does not reshuffle the music for you.
Why your tracks play alphabetically
The order is usually set before the broadcast reaches YouTube. Your source might be an OBS media playlist, a radio automation app, an FFmpeg script, or a cloud playout service. If it sorts files by name or title, the encoder sends them in that order. A YouTube playlist shuffle control cannot change audio that is already part of a live broadcast.

YouTube’s live setup and ingest settings govern how the broadcast reaches the platform, not which track plays next. Its official live-streaming setup guidance and HLS documentation are useful for channel and transport configuration, but they do not provide a universal music-shuffle switch for your source.
Change the order in the playout source
- Identify what is actually playing the tracks. Check whether the playlist is in OBS, a radio automation application, an FFmpeg script, or a cloud playout service. The source that feeds the encoder is where you need to change ordering.
- Inspect how it builds the playlist. Disable filename or title sorting if the option exists. Otherwise, drag tracks into a deliberate order or create a playlist whose order is already mixed.
- Enable shuffle if the source supports it. Check what “shuffle” means in that particular product: it may reshuffle immediately, when the current track ends, or only after the playlist completes a full pass.
- Check transitions before relying on the change. Make a short private or unlisted check and listen through several track changes. Confirm both that the order varies and that the stream continues without an unwanted pause or restart.
Shuffle behavior is product-specific. For example, playout.video’s playlist help page says its shuffle randomizes items after each full loop pass. That describes this provider’s behavior, not a general rule for OBS, FFmpeg, or other services.

Choose a way to keep the broadcast running
The ordering fix belongs in the playlist source regardless of how you keep the stream online. Choose a setup based on how much local maintenance you want, what playlist controls it offers, and how it recovers from interruptions.

There is no universal best option established for every channel. Compare playlist control, reshuffle timing, recovery after process or connection failure, monitoring, operational effort, and total cost. Whatever the setup, keep the playout process running, monitor the broadcast, and use music you have the rights to stream continuously.
