To make your iPhone vibrate as you type, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback and turn on Haptic. Apple’s instructions apply to iOS 16 or later. The Haptic and Sound switches are independent, so you can enable vibration without keyboard clicks.
Turn on keyboard haptics
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Sounds & Haptics.
- Tap Keyboard Feedback.
- Turn on Haptic.
- Type in an app with a text field to check whether you feel the feedback.
Apple documents the settings path and toggle in its iPhone keyboard sounds and haptics instructions. Its current iPhone user guide also says keyboard haptics and sounds can be customized in Keyboard Feedback.

Choose vibration, sound, or both
In Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback, Haptic controls typing vibration and Sound controls keyboard clicks. Turn on either option or both; enabling one does not require enabling the other.

If you don’t feel vibration
Check that system-wide vibration is enabled: open Settings > Accessibility > Touch and turn on Vibration. Apple lists this as a setting to check when keyboard haptics are not felt.
