Put the Screenshot button back on the toolbar
- Open the Firefox menu.
- Select More Tools > Customize Toolbar.
- Find Screenshot in the customization palette and drag it to the toolbar.
- Click Done to save the change.
You can place the button wherever it is convenient on the toolbar. Mozilla’s Take screenshots in Firefox help article documents this as the standard way to add it.
Use Firefox Screenshots without the toolbar button
The button is only one way to open the built-in tool. Mozilla documents two other routes:
- Context menu: right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot.
- Keyboard shortcut: press Ctrl + Shift + S on Windows or Linux, or Command + Shift + S on macOS.
These methods invoke the same Firefox Screenshots feature, so you can use them while deciding whether to restore the toolbar button.

If Screenshot is missing from Customize Toolbar
If the Screenshot item does not appear in the customization palette, an accepted Mozilla Support answer for a Firefox 120 case recommends checking two advanced preferences and whether a policy disables screenshots. That answer dates to November 24, 2023, so treat these as diagnostic checks for a missing item, not as guaranteed causes or universal current defaults.
Check the preferences and policy
- Enter
about:configin the address bar and confirm the warning to open the advanced preferences. - Search for
extensions.screenshots.disabledandscreenshots.browser.component.enabled. The accepted answer says both should befalse. - Check
about:policiesfor a policy that may disable screenshots.
Do not change advanced preferences casually. Verify the values and policy context first. If this is a work- or school-managed device, an administrator may control the setting; ask them before changing managed configuration. See the cited Mozilla Support discussion for the Firefox 120 case.

Restore the toolbar defaults
If Screenshot is absent from both the toolbar and the customization palette, the accepted answer also suggests choosing Restore Defaults in the Customize Toolbar view. The original poster reported that this fixed their case, but one report does not establish that resetting the toolbar will fix every missing-item problem. Restoring defaults can undo other toolbar customizations, so use it only if you are comfortable rebuilding them.
What Firefox Screenshots can capture
Once opened, the built-in tool can capture a selected region, a page part highlighted as you move the pointer, the full page, or the visible portion of the page. You can save the image to Firefox’s default download folder or copy it to the clipboard, according to Mozilla’s help article.

Privacy and keyboard-access notes
Mozilla’s help article says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction data such as whether users choose Copy or Save full page, but does not collect the URL or details of the image captured. The article says technical and interaction data collection can be disabled in Firefox’s data-collection setting, and that website data collection follows the browser’s Do Not Track setting. These are Mozilla’s descriptions of the feature; consult its help article for the applicable Firefox version and operating-system details.
