If a website says cookies are disabled, first identify your browser and device, then allow cookies for that site if possible. The setting may control ordinary site cookies or third-party cookies used by embedded content; those are not the same thing. Use the browser-specific paths below, and choose a site exception rather than a broad change when the site only needs access for one feature.
How do I enable cookies in Chrome?
Allow third-party cookies on a computer
- Open Chrome and select More > Settings > Privacy and security > Third-party cookies.
- Select Allow third-party cookies if the website needs third-party access across sites.
- Return to the affected website and reload it.
Chrome’s third-party-cookie controls are separate from its controls for first-party site data stored on your device. If only one site or embedded service is failing, use Sites allowed to use third-party cookies > Add and enter the site instead of allowing third-party cookies broadly. Chrome blocks third-party cookies by default in Incognito. An allow choice there lasts for that Incognito session; in regular browsing, Chrome documents a site exception as lasting 90 days or until you switch it off. If Chrome shows a temporary permission prompt, close the prompt and reload the page for the choice to take effect.
How do I turn on cookies on my iPhone?
Enable cookies in Safari for iPhone
- Open the iPhone’s Settings app.
- Tap Apps > Safari > Advanced.

Allow cookies across sites
- Open Edge and go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies.
- Turn on Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended).
Allow cookies for one site
- In Edge, open Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies.
- Under Allowed to save cookies, select Add site.
- Enter the affected site’s URL.
Microsoft notes that blocking cookies from a site can prevent some pages from displaying correctly. Menu placement can vary by platform or browser version; if the labels differ, consult Microsoft’s current Edge cookie instructions.
How do I allow cookies in Firefox?
Firefox’s current desktop help centers on Enhanced Tracking Protection, which you can manage globally under Settings > Privacy & Security or adjust for a particular site using the protections control. The exact choice depends on what the site needs; Firefox does not present one universal cookie switch for every device and release. For an LMS-specific exception, Microsoft documents this Firefox workflow: open Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Manage Exceptions, enter the website, choose Allow, and save. Firefox labels may differ by release, so check Mozilla’s current help if you cannot find that path.

Use a site exception where your browser offers one. It grants access to the affected site without changing the setting for every site. The available controls differ by browser, and an ordinary first-party cookie exception may not solve a feature that depends on third-party or cross-site access.

How do I allow third-party cookies for an LMS or embedded tool?
An LMS tool, sign-in flow, or other embedded service may need to use cookies across sites. Microsoft Learn says LMS tools using an LTI 1.3 handshake may need third-party browser cookies for the LMS URL; its guidance was last updated September 15, 2025. If the LMS is the only affected site, prefer its site exception in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox where available rather than enabling broad third-party access.
For Safari, Microsoft’s LMS guide instructs users to turn off Prevent cross-site tracking for that use case. That setting is broader than allowing one ordinary first-party cookie, so change it only if the LMS requires it and you accept the privacy trade-off. Why does a website say cookies are disabled?
- The browser blocks cookies globally. Check the relevant browser setting and whether it applies to the kind of cookie the site needs.
- The site relies on third-party or cross-site access. An embedded tool may fail even when ordinary first-party cookies are allowed.
- The browser or device is different than expected. For iPhone Safari, the control is in the iPhone Settings app, not a browser-window menu.
- A privacy feature or site exception is blocking the request. Check the affected site’s permission or protection controls rather than changing every site’s settings.
- An organization manages the browser. Work or school policy may lock the control; contact the administrator if you cannot change it.
What should I try if cookies are enabled but the site still fails?
- Confirm which browser and device you are using, then follow that platform’s path above.
- Determine whether the problem concerns ordinary site data or a third-party feature such as an embedded LMS tool.
- If available, add an exception for the affected site and reload the page.
- Avoid deleting all cookies as an initial fix. Google warns that deleting them can sign you out and remove saved preferences.
- If the setting is unavailable or locked on a work or school device, ask your administrator whether a browser policy controls it.
Blocking cookies can make some sites or features fail, but enabling cross-site access more broadly can expose activity or content across sites. Make the narrowest change that restores the feature you need. Google and Microsoft describe the compatibility effects of cookie blocking.
