What RocketMod autosave does
RocketMod is the server-side .NET plugin framework commonly used to add administration and gameplay features to Unturned. Its Unturned configuration includes an AutomaticSave element that periodically writes the current world state to disk. Host Havoc Technical Support Team described the purpose on June 9, 2026: “Automatic saving periodically writes your world state to disk, reducing data loss if the server crashes unexpectedly.”

The setting belongs to RocketMod, not Unturned’s ordinary server configuration. Flux’s server-settings guide states: “There is no autosave setting, because Unturned has no autosave.” Without RocketMod or another supported server-side feature, changing the vanilla Config.txt will not create automatic saves.
Before you begin
- Have administrator access to the server files or its hosting control panel.
- Install RocketMod on the same Unturned server instance you want to configure. Host Havoc’s prerequisite is explicit: “Before you start: Install RocketMod on your server first.”
- Be able to stop and start, or restart, the server after changing its configuration.
- Use a text editor that preserves XML syntax. Do not paste the setting into
Config.txt; it belongs inRocket.Unturned.config.xml.
RocketMod’s original project ceased maintenance, but the Unturned Wiki records that a maintained fork continued the framework. Consequently, folder names and panel labels can differ between installations. The XML element described below is the documented RocketMod route, while the exact file location depends on your server instance and provider.

Enable automatic saving step by step
- Install and load RocketMod. Follow the installation method for your server software or host. Confirm that RocketMod has loaded before looking for its generated configuration directory.
- Start the server once after installation if necessary. A first launch can generate the Rocket directory and its configuration files. If you installed RocketMod while the server was stopped and cannot find the directory, start it, let it finish loading, then stop it cleanly before editing.
- Open the Rocket directory for this server. In Host Havoc’s hosted layout, the example path is
ServersUnturnedServerByHHRocket. A self-hosted installation may use a different server-name folder, and another provider may expose the same files through a Files or Config Files menu. - Open
Rocket.Unturned.config.xml. Select the file associated with the Unturned server instance you are changing. Multiple server instances can have separate Rocket directories. - Add or edit the automatic-save element. Place this element in the configuration where the other RocketMod settings are defined:

Enabled="true"attribute turns the feature on. TheIntervalattribute is measured in seconds, not minutes. - Save the XML file. Keep the quotation marks, capitalization, slash, and angle brackets intact. If the file already contains an
AutomaticSaveelement, edit that existing element rather than creating a second one. - Restart the server. RocketMod reads the configuration when the server loads. A file saved while the process is running may not take effect until the next restart.
Choose the correct interval value
Use the number of seconds that matches how frequently you want a periodic world-state write. The values below are documented examples, not measurements of server performance or a guarantee that every save will complete in exactly that amount of time.

For a five-minute schedule, use:

<AutomaticSave Enabled="true" Interval="600" />The shorter the interval, the less in-game progress can be lost between successful writes, but each save still depends on the server completing its disk operation. The documented figures do not establish a performance benchmark, a maximum player count, or a guaranteed recovery window.

Managed hosting panel
Some providers install RocketMod for you or expose its files through a web panel. Look for a Files, File Manager, Configuration, or Config Files section, then open the Rocket directory belonging to the Unturned instance. Host Havoc’s example uses ServersUnturnedServerByHHRocket; that folder name is specific to its layout and should not be copied blindly to another provider.

If the panel offers a direct configuration editor, use the file named Rocket.Unturned.config.xml rather than the game’s vanilla Config.txt. Save through the panel, then use its restart control. A panel may require you to stop the server before editing or may queue the change until the next restart; follow the status message it displays.
Self-hosted server
On a self-hosted machine, locate the directory created by RocketMod under the server instance’s own files. The parent folder can vary with the name assigned to the server, the launch method, and the maintained RocketMod fork in use. Search within the server directory for Rocket.Unturned.config.xml instead of assuming a universal absolute path. If the file does not exist, launch the server once after RocketMod is installed so the Rocket directory and configuration can be generated, then stop it before editing.
Several Unturned instances
When one machine runs more than one server, each instance can have its own Rocket directory and XML file. Match the file to the instance whose world you want to save. Editing the configuration for a different server will not change the schedule of the one your players use.

How to verify that the setting loaded
- Stop the server if your host requires stopped-state file changes, save the XML, and start or restart it.
- Watch the startup console or log for RocketMod loading messages. The exact wording varies by fork and provider, so the important check is that RocketMod itself starts without an XML parsing error.
- Confirm that the file still contains one enabled
AutomaticSaveelement with the interval you selected. - Allow at least one complete interval to pass while the server is running. A five-minute value does not imply that a save occurs immediately when the process starts.
- Use the server’s normal shutdown procedure as an additional safety measure. Automatic saving is intended to reduce loss from an unexpected crash; it does not replace orderly shutdowns or any separate backup system your host provides.
The available documentation supplies the configuration procedure and example intervals, but it does not provide a universal in-game notification, log line, or test result that proves a save on every RocketMod build. If your provider documents a panel-specific status indicator, use that indicator in addition to checking the XML and restart sequence.
Troubleshooting common failures
The Rocket folder or XML file is missing
- Verify that RocketMod was actually installed for this server, not merely downloaded to the host account.
- Start the server once after installation to allow its configuration files to be generated, then stop it before editing.
- Search the files for
Rocket.Unturned.config.xml; the server-name directory may differ from the example used by a hosting provider. - If a managed panel hides the filesystem, check its Files or Config Files area or ask the provider where RocketMod configurations are exposed.
The server starts, but autosave does not activate
- Make sure the attribute is exactly
Enabled="true", including the lowercase wordtrue. - Check that
Intervalcontains a number of seconds, such as300or600, rather than text such as “5 minutes.” - Confirm that you edited
Rocket.Unturned.config.xml, not vanillaConfig.txtor a configuration belonging to another server instance. - Restart after saving. RocketMod must reload the file before the change can apply.
The server fails to load after editing
An XML syntax mistake can prevent the configuration from being read. Compare the line with the known-good form:
<AutomaticSave Enabled="true" Interval="300" />Check for missing quotation marks, an omitted closing />, duplicated elements, or accidental characters pasted into the file. Restore the last working copy if necessary, start the server, and then make one small correction at a time. If the provider’s editor validates XML or offers version history, use those features rather than repeatedly overwriting the file.

The file keeps reverting
Some panels regenerate configuration files or apply settings from a separate template. Stop the server, edit the panel’s designated RocketMod configuration screen, save, and restart according to the provider’s workflow. If the XML is replaced again, the host’s current instructions take precedence over an older file-edit procedure.

The setting itself is the same, but the work around it differs. Use these distinctions when deciding how you want to administer RocketMod.

Pingperfect presents its XML file-edit instructions as an “Old Method.” That does not change the meaning of the RocketMod element, but it is a warning to check the current panel workflow before editing files manually. Provider documentation can change independently of RocketMod’s configuration format.
What autosave can and cannot protect
An enabled interval gives RocketMod a recurring opportunity to write the world state. It reduces the amount of progress exposed when a crash occurs between writes, but it cannot recover changes that had not yet been saved, repair a damaged disk, or substitute for every form of backup. The available sources provide no named reliability statistic or measured recovery rate, so treat the intervals as configuration choices rather than guarantees.

A busy cooperative world may justify a shorter interval than a lightly used private server, provided the machine and provider can handle the resulting writes. If you change the value, edit the same XML element and restart again; there is no separate in-game autosave switch in vanilla Unturned.
