Choose the voicemail method your carrier provides
| Method | Where you manage messages | How deletion works | Availability and recovery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dial-in voicemail | Your carrier’s voicemail system, reached through the Phone app. | Follow the spoken menu and select the deletion action it announces. The key varies by provider. | Access and options vary by carrier. Archive or recovery behavior is not stated in Samsung Australia’s guide; check with your carrier. |
| Visual Voicemail | Your carrier’s Voicemail or Visual Voicemail app, if available. | Select a message and use Delete or the trash icon; the exact controls vary by app. | Availability and controls vary by carrier. Verizon says its deleted messages cannot be retrieved and that archived messages are saved to device internal storage; check your carrier’s own guidance. |
Samsung notes that voicemail options vary by carrier, and the app name and icon can vary too. See Samsung’s Galaxy call-settings guide.

Delete messages by calling voicemail
- Open the Phone app.
- Touch and hold 1 to call voicemail.
- Listen to the complete menu prompts and choose the option for deleting a message.
- Repeat for each message you want to remove, then end the call.
The delete key is set by the network provider, so do not assume a number such as 7 will work. Samsung Australia’s instructions describe this dial-in route for Australian-variant Galaxy devices and say the provider determines the prompts and option numbers. Availability and menu options can differ elsewhere; contact your local carrier if the instructions do not match what you hear.

- Open your carrier’s Voicemail or Visual Voicemail app.
- Select or touch and hold a message to show its actions.
- Tap Delete or the trash icon, then confirm if prompted.
For example, AT&T’s Galaxy A16 5G instructions say to touch and hold a message, tap Delete, and confirm. Verizon’s Visual Voicemail instructions use a trash icon; to delete multiple messages, select additional messages before tapping Trash and confirming. These are provider-specific examples, not universal app layouts.

Check before deleting important messages
Verizon states that deleted Visual Voicemail messages cannot be retrieved and that archived messages are saved to device internal storage. This guidance applies to Verizon’s Visual Voicemail service; it does not establish how another carrier handles archives or recovery. If a message may matter later, check your carrier app’s archive and recovery options before deleting it.
If the voicemail notification remains
A notification can persist even after you have dealt with messages, and clearing an app’s data is not the same as emptying the carrier mailbox. Samsung UK recommends listening to all new messages first; the notification usually disappears after they are heard. If it remains, follow Samsung UK’s notification troubleshooting guide: it lists clearing cache and data for Call settings, and repeating the step for the Phone app if needed. Clearing Phone app data resets it and removes recent calls, but Samsung says it does not remove contacts. If the icon still persists, check the voicemail account with your network provider.
