To edit video in the cloud, first decide whether you want to edit in a browser or use a desktop editor whose projects and review workflow are cloud-connected. Those are different setups: browser editing can avoid installing a desktop editor, while cloud collaboration in Premiere or DaVinci Resolve still involves a local editing application and a separate plan for storing and accessing footage.
Choose the kind of cloud editing you need
Browser-based editing
A browser editor is the closest match to editing entirely online: you work in a web application rather than installing a desktop nonlinear editor. Adobe describes Firefly Video Editor as a browser-based, lightweight multitrack editor that can combine generated clips, music and user-uploaded footage, with timeline- or text-based editing and export. Adobe’s April 15, 2026 announcement also describes audio tools and Adobe Stock integration. These are Adobe’s descriptions of its product; they should not be taken to mean the browser editor has feature parity with a full desktop editor.

Cloud-connected desktop editing
In this setup, the editing application runs on your computer, but project collaboration, media organization, review or sharing uses cloud services. Adobe Team Projects is designed for shared Premiere projects. DaVinci Resolve can use Blackmagic Cloud project libraries for collaboration. Neither description means that all original footage is automatically streamed from cloud storage to every collaborator.
Which workflow should you pick?
| Need | Possible fit | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Make a relatively lightweight edit in a browser | Adobe Firefly Video Editor, as Adobe describes it | Check that its browser-based editing capabilities meet the needs of your project; it is not presented as a full desktop-editor equivalent. |
| Collaborate on a Premiere project with a small or distributed team | Premiere Team Projects | Coordinate sequence locks, published changes, access and media availability. |
| Coordinate a larger Premiere production spread across project files | Premiere Productions | Use bin locking to help reduce conflicting edits across projects. |
| Share a DaVinci Resolve project and review changes | DaVinci Resolve with Blackmagic Cloud | Plan project-library access, media synchronization or storage, proxies and review. |
Before choosing, compare browser versus desktop editing, the application your team already uses, team size, locking and change-review behavior, where originals and proxies will live, upload and download capacity, local disk space, review and commenting needs, access controls, and recurring software, storage or licensing costs. The cited product materials describe workflow differences but do not provide a complete current price comparison.

A practical cloud-editing workflow
- Choose browser or desktop collaboration. Use the browser path if you want to edit in a web application and the available capabilities suit the job. Choose a cloud-connected desktop workflow if the team needs a shared professional project in Premiere or Resolve.
- Create the project and set access. In Premiere Team Projects, invite collaborators, use sequence locking to coordinate edits, and publish changes. For a larger production across project files, consider Productions and bin locking. In Resolve, create a cloud project library and share the project with collaborators’ Blackmagic Cloud IDs.
- Organize and make media available. Treat project sharing and footage storage as separate decisions. Adobe documents uploading bins from local source files. Blackmagic’s workflow supports local drives, network storage and cloud storage; choose what the team can reliably access. Keep track of which media is original and which is proxy.
- Create proxies when originals are impractical to work with. Large source files can make remote work harder when bandwidth or local storage is limited. Blackmagic’s Proxy Generator can create H.264, H.265 or ProRes proxy files and link them to originals. Confirm the proxy-to-original relationship before delivery so the final output uses the intended media.
- Agree on collaboration boundaries. Decide who edits which sequence, bin or timeline, how changes are published or accepted, and where review notes belong. Locking can reduce conflicts, but it does not replace a team agreement about ownership and handoffs.
- Review changes in the right place. Adobe describes timestamped comments and annotations, the ability to import comments into a Premiere timeline as markers, and review versions. Blackmagic Presentations supports review of a timeline or clip through a secure web link; its documentation says markers and comments relink bidirectionally with Resolve.
- Revise, then export a delivery copy. Keep the editable project and its required media distinct from the exported video file. A project version is for reopening and continuing work; an export is the rendered file intended for delivery. Premiere Team Projects records published project history, while Frame.io organizes review versions.
- Retain what you will need later. Preserve the project, relevant media and version context needed for future revisions, and ensure collaborators who need them still have access. A shared project alone is not a guarantee that every original clip is available to every editor.
Common cloud-editing problems to prevent
- A collaborator sees a project but cannot edit its footage: project access and media access are separate. Check that the source files, proxy files or shared storage are available to that person.
- Edits conflict or overwrite context: define sequence, bin or timeline ownership and use the editor’s locking and publish/review process rather than having multiple people edit the same area without coordination.
- Playback or remote work is slow: inspect the size and location of the media, available bandwidth and local disk capacity. Consider a proxy workflow where appropriate; do not assume cloud project sharing itself removes the need to download or synchronize media.
- Review comments are missed: choose a single review path, tell collaborators where timestamped notes live, and bring comments into the timeline when the workflow supports it.
- The exported file is mistaken for an editable backup: keep the project and required media separately; an export does not preserve the timeline structure needed for ordinary future edits.
Costs and optional local storage
Software, cloud storage, collaboration and licensing charges depend on the product, plan and region. The available product descriptions do not establish a complete current price comparison, so check the vendors’ current terms before choosing. An external SSD can be useful for active media or proxies when local storage is a bottleneck, but it is an optional accessory—not a cloud editing service and not a requirement for every setup.

StreamNeo is a separate tool for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos; it does not edit video or stream from a camera. If your finished edit is meant to play continuously as a YouTube live stream, upload it to StreamNeo, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer can stay off; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Learn about StreamNeo or start the free first day.
