In Uncharted Waters Origin, trade is the official guide’s recommended way to earn Ducats, while shipbuilding raises Build LV and unlocks blueprints. To improve a fleet, you also need ship materials, which can come from shops, tasks, combat, rewards, and guild systems. The right upgrade depends on a ship’s job and the waters it needs to cross—not on one universally best ship or resource route.
Earn Ducats through trade
Ducats are the everyday currency used for basic transactions such as building ships and buying ship parts. The official Uncharted Waters Origin Game Guide recommends buying goods in one port where prices are low and selling them in another where they command a higher price. It calls trade “the quickest, and surest way to earn Ducats.”

That is a general method, not a promise of a fixed profit. The guide gives no guaranteed route, hourly income, or minimum starting capital. Compare port prices and choose trades that suit your current funds and voyage; do not assume every cargo will sell at a profit.

Shipbuilding serves two purposes: it adds ships to your fleet and raises Build LV. As Build LV increases, additional blueprints unlock. A blueprint and the materials for a ship are separate requirements, and ships also cost Ducats; higher-grade ships can require rarer materials. Construction takes time. The ship guide says Shipbuilding Acceleration or Red Gems can shorten it. Red Gems and Shipbuilding Acceleration are for speeding up construction; they are not the Blue Gems used for modification. Check the ship and its costs before starting: canceling a build in progress does not refund its Ducats or materials.
Find ship materials across several routes
Materials are not all obtained from one source, and a listed activity does not guarantee it will provide every material. The official ship and growth guides name these possible sources:

- Shipyard Parts Shop: Check its stock for ship materials.
- Black Market: The Item Shop may occasionally offer rare materials.
- Daily Tasks and combat: Tasks and combat loot can provide materials.
- Adventure, Task, Event, and Palace rewards: These are additional reward categories; what is available depends on the activity and current game state.
The official Shipyard guide also says unwanted ships can be dismantled for spare materials. The guide does not specify yields or show that dismantling is always an efficient exchange, so consider whether the ship still has a role in your fleet before recycling it.

Guild participation can add access to Guild Currency, ship blueprints, crafting materials, and Guild Crafting. The official guild systems guide describes Guild Currency rewards for reaching contribution thresholds. It can be spent in the Contribution Shop, where purchase limits apply and the listed stock refreshes weekly. Check the in-game shop for its current items and limits.

Documented ways to contribute include city investment, requests, and combining equipment or parts. The required actions and contribution limits can depend on the current in-game rules, so consult the guild guide in game rather than relying on a fixed point target.
Guild Crafting can produce ship parts, mate gear, and tools. It requires request letters and essential materials such as processed iron, processed lumber, and ore. The guild guide says those materials may be bought in the Contribution Shop or obtained as Palace rewards or through combat against a powerful opponent. This is an additional route for players with guild access, not a prerequisite for every beginner.

Choose ship upgrades for the job and route
Ships specialize in Adventure, Trade, or Combat. The official ship guide describes the trade-offs:

Some waters require navigation stats such as Ice Breaking, Seaworthiness, and Momentum. Before committing Ducats and scarce materials, match the ship’s role to its job and check that its relevant navigation stats meet the needs of the voyage. No specialization is the universal best choice.

Distinguish modification from equipped parts
Modification and parts improve a ship in different ways. Modification upgrades three randomly selected base stats. It costs the ship’s Blueprint or a Common Blueprint plus Blue Gems, can be performed at most five times, and has costs that vary by ship. Because the stats are selected randomly, modification is not the same as choosing a particular stat to improve. The ship details growth guide explains the system.
Equipped parts are a separate way to raise ship base stats: you improve the ship by selecting and equipping parts rather than applying a randomized modification. Consider which stats matter for the ship’s role and route when deciding what to equip.
Check current availability before spending
Official guides document the resource routes, but shops, rewards, and event opportunities can vary. LINE Games’ September 26, 2025 announcement confirms that seasonal events and trade goods can alter opportunities; it does not establish a live event bonus for every date. Check current event notices and in-game shop stock before planning around a time-limited reward or rare material.
