To download games on a LeapPad Academy, connect the tablet to Wi-Fi, finish setup with a Parent Account, then use the LeapFrog App Center for additional games. For an online purchase, use the same Parent Account email registered on the tablet. If a new purchase does not appear, restart the tablet and reconnect to Wi-Fi.
Set up LeapPad Academy before downloading

- Power on the LeapPad Academy using its AC adapter.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to connect to Wi-Fi.
- Create or sign in to a Parent Account to register the tablet.
- During setup, choose whether to sign up for LeapFrog Academy, then follow the prompts to download the included apps.
- To add other digital content, open the App Center. Parent settings can control access to the App Center and purchases; purchases require the Parent Account password.

App Center purchases
The App Center is LeapFrog’s route for additional games, apps, music, and videos, which are sold separately from the apps included with the tablet. Check the listing for the title you want and confirm that it is compatible with LeapPad Academy before purchasing. LeapPad Academy product page
LeapFrog Academy subscription
LeapFrog Academy is a subscription service, not the same thing as buying an individual App Center game. LeapFrog describes its service as offering more than 2,000 games and activities. The offer shown can vary: the LeapPad Academy guide describes a three-month trial for purchasers of that device, while the general service signup page shows a one-month trial and plan prices. Offers and terms can depend on signup route and region, so check the terms displayed for your account before enrolling. LeapFrog Academy

LeapFrog says Academy favorites can be saved for offline play, but that does not establish that every activity works offline. Internet access is required for initial setup and downloads.
Fix a game that does not show up
- Confirm the tablet is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Power cycle the tablet, then reconnect it to Wi-Fi. LeapFrog recommends this to prompt automatic downloading of a newly purchased app.
- If you bought the app on LeapFrog.com, check that the tablet is registered to the same Parent Account email used for the purchase. LeapFrog support: newly purchased apps aren’t downloading
- Check that the particular app supports LeapPad Academy. Compatibility varies between LeapFrog tablets.
Use a purchase on another device
LeapFrog Support says App Center purchases can be used on up to five compatible devices under the same Parent Account. This is a vendor policy stated in a 2016 support article; compatibility still varies by app. For Wi-Fi LeapPad models, available apps download automatically when the device is connected to Wi-Fi and signed in with the purchasing account. What the microSD slot does—and does not do
LeapFrog lists a microSD slot supporting expansion up to 32GB; the card is sold separately. It adds storage but does not provide games or replace downloading through the App Center or LeapFrog Academy. Confirm accessory compatibility before buying a card. LeapPad Academy product page
When an older game is unavailable
LeapFrog’s support materials do not guarantee that every older title remains in the catalog or that downloads will remain available indefinitely. Search the current App Center for the specific title or contact LeapFrog support if you cannot find it. The product page lists 20 included apps; that figure and the Academy catalog size are LeapFrog’s own descriptions, not independent counts.
