You can use ChatGPT on the web or download an official app for your phone or computer. Choose the route for your device, verify that OpenAI is the publisher of mobile apps, and check that the service and app support your location and operating system.
Choose an official way to access ChatGPT
- Web: Go to chatgpt.com in a browser. No desktop app installation is needed.
- Android: Find ChatGPT in Google Play. OpenAI’s instructions recommend searching for “openai chatgpt” and confirming that the publisher is OpenAI before installing: Android app instructions.
- iPhone or iPad: Find ChatGPT in the Apple App Store. Search for “openai chatgpt” and check that OpenAI is the publisher. OpenAI provides its app-store link and guidance on its iOS app FAQ.
- Mac: Use OpenAI’s download page, which detects whether your Mac uses Apple Silicon or Intel and offers the appropriate installer.
- Windows: Install ChatGPT through the Microsoft Store, as directed by OpenAI’s Windows app guidance.
Install the app for your device
Android and iPhone or iPad
- Open Google Play on Android or the Apple App Store on an iPhone or iPad.
- Search for “openai chatgpt.”
- Before installing, check the publisher name. It should be OpenAI.
- Install the app and sign in with your account.
App availability depends on location. If you cannot find the official app, check OpenAI’s supported countries and territories list.

Mac
- Visit chatgpt.com/download.
- Download the installer offered for your Mac, then follow the installation prompts.
- Open ChatGPT and sign in.
OpenAI’s current macOS requirements are macOS 14 and either an Apple Silicon M1 or later processor or an Intel processor. See the macOS app requirements before downloading.

- Open the ChatGPT listing in the Microsoft Store using OpenAI’s Windows app instructions.
- Select the install option in Microsoft Store and follow its prompts.
- Launch the app and sign in.
The cited OpenAI guidance lists Windows 10, x64 or arm64, version 17763.0 or higher. Check the live Store listing and help page for current compatibility and feature details.

Check availability and compatibility first
OpenAI maintains a live list of places where ChatGPT is supported on the web and mobile. Check that list for your country or territory rather than relying on an old copied list; OpenAI warns that accessing or offering access from an unsupported location may result in an account being blocked or suspended.
For desktop apps, confirm your operating system and hardware meet the requirements on OpenAI’s current Mac or Windows pages. These details and the features available in each app can change. OpenAI’s macOS guidance also says the former desktop app is now called ChatGPT Classic and remains supported; it recommends the new app for agentic features and Codex.

Sign in and manage subscriptions
After installing an official app, sign in with your ChatGPT account. Subscription management can depend on where a subscription was purchased: OpenAI’s iOS FAQ says a subscription bought on the web is managed at chatgpt.com. Check the relevant app-store or OpenAI account guidance for your purchase route and plan details.
