Release 28 was announced on February 18, 2026.
What you are downloading
In 0 A.D., you lead an ancient civilization, gather resources, and build a military force. Release 28 adds the Germans faction, lobby improvements, new game setup options, and engine and platform updates. The project calls this its first release without the Alpha label, while its game listing still describes it as “In development”; the change in release naming should not be taken as a claim that development is finished. Install the game
Windows
- Open the official download page and choose the Windows 64-bit package.
- Run the downloaded installer and follow its prompts to complete setup.
Release 28 includes a 64-bit build intended to address infrequent out-of-memory errors. That is a release note, not a guarantee of performance on every computer.
macOS
- On the official download page, select the DMG matching your Mac: Intel for Intel processors, or Apple Silicon (M1+) for Apple Silicon.
- Open the downloaded DMG and wait for macOS to verify it.
- Drag the app to your chosen location, such as the Applications folder.
These DMG steps and the macOS version floors are listed in the project’s macOS download instructions.

Linux
- Check the official download instructions for the Release 28 AppImage or a package route suitable for your distribution.
- Follow the instructions for the selected package. If you use a distribution-maintained package, consult that distribution’s documentation for its installation method.
Release 28 added an AppImage to the official releases. The project also works with Snap and Flatpak maintainers; availability and update timing through those channels can depend on the maintainers.

If you already have the game installed, Wildfire Games advises deactivating every mod before updating to reduce the risk of conflicts. After the update, re-enable mods as needed and check whether they are compatible with the new release.

Fix a macOS multiplayer lobby crash
The project documents that some macOS users may experience a crash when opening the multiplayer lobby. Its workaround for affected users is to turn off TLS Encryption at Settings > Options > Lobby. This is a troubleshooting step for that issue, not the recommended default: the Release 28 announcement says TLS certificate verification is enabled by default and advises against disabling it.
