The Amazon App Store is Amazon’s official app marketplace for Android-based devices. Depending on your device, it may already be installed, or you may need to download and install it manually.
This guide covers the full, practical process: installing on Fire tablets, installing on Android phones/tablets via an APK, and what to do when downloads or installs fail.

What the Amazon App Store Is (and Why You Might Need It)
The Amazon App Store provides paid and free apps (and many in-app purchases) for Amazon and Android devices that support it. You might use it to get Amazon-exclusive apps, alternative app sourcing, or compatibility with certain deals and services.

Before You Download: Compatibility and Prerequisites
Before you install anything, confirm your device can run it. These checks prevent most “won’t install” problems.
- Device type: Fire tablet (Fire OS) vs Android phone/tablet.
- Android version: Many current Amazon Appstore builds require a reasonably modern Android version. If your device is very old, installation may fail.
- Storage: Keep at least a few hundred MB free (apps and updates need room).
- Internet: Needed for downloading the Appstore and then apps.
- Unknown sources: Android requires you to allow APK installation before you can install the Amazon Appstore APK.
Validation check: If you’re downloading the APK from any third-party site, stop. Use the official Amazon download page (or the installer route inside Amazon services). Third-party APKs are the #1 cause of malware and broken installs.
Method 1: Download on Fire Tablets (Most Common)
If you have a Fire tablet, you usually don’t “download the App Store” at all—it’s already there. What you may need instead is to open it, update it, or reinstall it if something went wrong.
Check if Amazon Appstore is already installed
- Swipe down from the top of your Fire tablet screen.
- Tap Search and type Amazon Appstore (or Appstore).
- Tap the Amazon Appstore icon if it appears.
Update the system to refresh the App Store
- Open Settings.
- Tap Device Options.
- Tap System Updates (wording can vary by Fire OS version).
- Install any available updates, then restart if prompted.
Fire OS updates often bring Appstore updates too. If the Appstore won’t launch after an update, try Method 3 (reinstall/fix).
Method 2: Install Amazon Appstore on an Android Phone or Tablet
On Android, the Amazon App Store is typically installed using an APK. You’ll download the official installer and then run it.
Step 1: Enable App Installation From Unknown Sources
The menu names differ by Android skin (Samsung One UI, Motorola, Xiaomi/MIUI, etc.), but the setting always exists somewhere under security permissions.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Security (or Security & privacy).
- Find Install unknown apps.
- Select the browser you’ll use to download the APK (commonly Chrome or Firefox).
- Turn on Allow from this source.
If you don’t see “Install unknown apps,” search Settings for unknown apps.
Step 2: Download the Amazon Appstore APK
Use Amazon’s official download page so you get the correct installer for your device. Avoid links shared in random forums.
- On your Android device, open your browser (Chrome is common).
- Navigate to the official Amazon Appstore download page.
- Tap the button to download Amazon Appstore for Android (it downloads an APK).
- Wait for the download to finish, then note the filename (often
AmazonAppstore.apkor similar).
Step 3: Install the APK and Open Amazon Appstore
- Open your device’s Downloads app or Files app.
- Tap the downloaded AmazonAppstore.apk.
- Tap Install.
- When installation completes, tap Open.
If your phone asks for extra permissions, accept what’s required for the store to function (network access and notifications are typical).

- Open Settings → Apps.
- Search for Amazon Appstore.
- Tap Uninstall (if available).
- Download the installer again from the official Amazon page.
- Install the APK and open the app.
Clear cache/data (Android)
- Settings → Apps → Amazon Appstore.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear cache first.
- If it still fails, tap Clear data (this may require signing in again).
Try cache clearing before clearing data—data reset costs more time because you’ll re-sign in.
Troubleshooting: When the Download or Install Fails
Most install issues boil down to one of: Android permission settings, a corrupted download, device incompatibility, or missing supporting Amazon services.
APK won’t install (error messages)
- Parse error / App not installed: Redownload the APK and ensure it’s the full file (not interrupted).
- There was a problem parsing the package: The APK file may be corrupted or the download may have been cut short.
- App not installed for all users: Usually occurs on devices with multiple user profiles. Try installing under the primary user.
- Incompatible with your device: Your Android version or CPU architecture may not be supported by that Appstore build.
For stubborn “incompatible” errors, try updating Android system components first, then retry the official APK download.
Appstore won’t open or keeps crashing
- Restart the device.
- Go to Settings → Apps → Amazon Appstore → Storage.
- Clear cache, then try again.
- If it still crashes, clear data and sign in again.
- Check if your device has a system WebView update (many Android apps depend on it).
Also check that your device clock/timezone is correct—SSL and login flows can fail with incorrect time.
Apps won’t download after install
- Insufficient storage: Free space and try again.
- Network errors: Switch Wi‑Fi ↔ mobile data or reboot your router.
- Authentication issues: Sign out and sign back in inside Amazon Appstore.
- Download stuck: Clear cache for Amazon Appstore and retry the specific app.
Amazon App Store is missing from your Fire tablet
On Fire tablets, Appstore should be installed by default. If it’s missing, the quickest path is to update the OS and then reinstall through Amazon’s system setup flows.
- Settings → Device Options → System Updates.
- Install updates and reboot.
- Search for Amazon Appstore again.
- If still missing, check whether your tablet uses a restricted profile or parental controls.
In rare cases, factory reset may be required if the OS partition is corrupted, but try updates and profile checks first.

Amazon App Store vs Google Play: What’s Different
Amazon Appstore and Google Play both distribute Android apps, but they don’t always overlap perfectly. Some apps appear only on one store, and update timing can differ.
| Category | Amazon App Store | Google Play |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Official on Fire tablets; installable on many Android devices via APK | Preinstalled on most Android devices |
| Updates | Can arrive at different times than Play | Typically fastest cadence for many apps |
| Account | Amazon account sign-in | Google account sign-in |
| Deals and bundles | Amazon promotions and app bundles | Google promotions and Play features |
If you need an app for a specific workflow (work email, banking, device utilities), verify it’s available on Amazon App Store before relying on it. When in doubt, test installation on a spare device first.
FAQs
Is Amazon Appstore free to download?
Yes. The Amazon Appstore installer itself doesn’t cost money. Individual apps you install from within the store may be free or paid.
Can I download Amazon App Store on any Android phone?
Not always. Some devices can’t install due to Android version, CPU architecture, or compatibility limits. If you get an “incompatible” install error, your device likely isn’t supported for that Appstore build.
What’s the safest way to download Amazon Appstore?
Use the official Amazon Appstore download page and install the resulting APK. Avoid third-party “mirror” sites that rehost the file.
Why do I need to allow unknown sources?
Because Android blocks APK installation by default for security. Enabling the setting just for the browser download flow lets Android install the package you requested from Amazon.
Does installing Amazon Appstore replace Google Play?
No. It installs alongside Google Play. You can use whichever store works for a given app.
Bottom Line
On Fire tablets, Amazon Appstore is usually already installed—so focus on system updates and re-opening the store. On Android phones and tablets, download the official Amazon Appstore APK from Amazon, enable unknown app installation for your browser, and then install the package.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If installs fail, use the specific troubleshooting path for the error you see: clear cache/data, verify download integrity, check Android compatibility, and confirm your device time and network settings.
