Download 7-Zip from the official 7-Zip download page, then choose the EXE installer that matches your Windows device: x64 for 64-bit x86 PCs, x86 for 32-bit Windows, or ARM64 for ARM-based Windows. 7-Zip supports Windows 10 and is free to use, including in commercial organizations.
Which 7-Zip download should I choose for Windows 10?
Check your device’s Windows system type before downloading. The architecture label on the official download page must match the architecture of your Windows installation.

- Go to the official 7-Zip download page.
- Find the Windows downloads and choose the EXE row that matches your system: x64, x86, or ARM64.
- Open the downloaded installer and follow its prompts to complete installation.
- After installation, use 7-Zip’s Windows shell integration or file manager to open and create archives.
The official page recommends the EXE installer. MSI packages are also listed as alternatives for x64 and x86; an ARM64 MSI is not listed there.

Is 7-Zip free?
Yes. 7-Zip’s official site says users do not need to register or pay, and that it may be used on any computer, including one in a commercial organization. Its licensing is not a single uniform license: the site says most code is under the GNU LGPL, some parts use the BSD 3-clause License, and an unRAR license restriction applies to some parts. See the official 7-Zip site and its FAQ for the project’s statements.

7-Zip can both pack (create) and unpack (extract) 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP, and WIM archives. It can also unpack a wider range of formats, including RAR, ISO, CAB, DMG, MSI, NSIS, VHD/VHDX, and VMDK. Unpacking support does not mean 7-Zip can create those formats.
The official feature list describes 7z compression using LZMA and LZMA2, AES-256 encryption for 7z and ZIP, Windows shell integration, and a file manager. See the official 7-Zip features and formats page for format details.
