To show one specific social media post in WordPress, paste its URL into an Embed block. To show a changing set of recent posts, use a social-feed plugin instead. The right method depends on the platform: public posts may embed directly, while Instagram and Facebook integrations can require authentication and have limitations.
Choose between embedding one post and displaying a feed
A WordPress embed displays a particular item hosted by another service; it does not upload that content to your WordPress Media Library. A feed plugin is the better fit when you want multiple or newer posts to appear together and update without rebuilding the page. WordPress documents a range of provider-specific embed blocks, but availability of a block does not guarantee every post will work. See WordPress’s embed service list.

How do I embed a social media post in a WordPress page?
- Open the public post or video you want to show and copy its URL.
- In the block editor, add the block for that service if one is available. Otherwise, add the generic Embed block. You can also type /embed in a paragraph block and press Enter.
- Paste the URL into the block and select Embed. WordPress may recognize the service and convert the generic block to its provider-specific block. WordPress’s Embed block guide explains the workflow.
- Preview the page on the front end. If the block and theme offer controls for alignment, dimensions, or responsive behavior, adjust them there; use custom CSS only if needed and supported by your theme.
An embed relies on the provider to serve the content, so it can fail if a post is private, embedding is disabled, or the provider changes its service. For YouTube, the video owner must allow embedding, and the video may be unavailable in some countries. WordPress also notes that non-personal identifying viewing data is shared with YouTube and the publisher. Read the YouTube embed guidance.

How to show a changing feed of recent posts
For a feed, choose a plugin that supports the platform and account you plan to connect. Check the plugin’s current compatibility and update history, required account type and authentication method, privacy and data handling, and whether the features you need are free or paid. Also consider layout options, filtering or moderation, and whether a plugin provides a useful fallback or caching behavior if the platform is unavailable.
#1 Best Overall
Instagram feed example
The WordPress.org listing for Smash Balloon Social Photo Feed describes a free plugin with multiple feeds, responsive layouts, display controls, and a block or widget. The listing places hashtag feeds, filtering, and additional layouts among Pro features. These are features stated in the directory listing, not an independent test or a guarantee about future versions.
Facebook feed example
The Smash Balloon Social Post Feed listing says its free version displays text and links; photos, videos, engagement details, alternate layouts, and filtering are listed as Pro features. Confirm the current feature split and connection requirements in the directory before installing.
Rank #2
These are examples, not a definitive ranking. If you need several networks, compare a multi-network plugin with separate platform-specific plugins rather than assuming one approach is always simpler or more reliable.
Platform-specific limits to check
Instagram and Facebook
WordPress’s documentation says Meta’s closure of its oEmbed endpoints affects the native Instagram and Facebook embed workflows. Its guidance describes API access as requiring developer credentials, including an app ID and authentication token. Instagram embeds are limited to public posts. The Facebook guide describes public posts and supported post, photo, album, and video types; it says pages, events, and groups cannot be embedded through the documented block workflow. Check the current Instagram and Facebook instructions before setting up an integration, since platform API and account rules can change.
X and other services
WordPress documents an X/Twitter workflow for public posts, profile links, and list links. That documented support does not guarantee that every post or live timeline will remain available under current platform rules. See the WordPress X/Twitter embed guide. The WordPress embed index also lists services such as Bluesky and TikTok; each item remains subject to its provider’s privacy settings, policies, and availability.

Troubleshoot an embed or feed that is not appearing
- Test the exact post URL: Open it while logged out or in a private browsing window. If the content is not publicly accessible, it may not embed.
- Check provider permissions: Confirm that the post or video permits embedding and is not restricted by geography or account settings.
- Review the integration: For an API-connected Instagram or Facebook feed, verify that the account connection and authentication are still valid and meet the plugin’s current requirements.
- Preview the published page: Check the front end, not just the editor, and test on a phone as well as a desktop browser. A block’s appearance can depend on the theme and available layout controls.
- Recheck current documentation: Provider policies, APIs, and plugin features can change; use the platform’s current requirements and the plugin’s directory listing to diagnose a newly broken embed.
