On Paper, Spigot, Purpur, and Folia, disable The End by stopping the server, opening bukkit.yml, changing settings.allow-end from true to false, saving, and starting the server again. This blocks normal End-portal travel without changing the Nether setting, and it preserves the existing End world.

Disable The End on Paper, Spigot, Purpur, or Folia
The setting is in bukkit.yml, not server.properties. Use this procedure on a Bukkit-derived Java server:
- Stop the server completely. Do not edit a configuration file while the server is running; the server can overwrite your change or leave a partially written file.
- Open the server root. In a self-hosted installation, this is the directory containing the server JAR, world folders,
server.properties, andbukkit.yml. In a hosting control panel, use its file manager or SFTP connection and open the same top-level directory. - Open
bukkit.yml. Find thesettingssection and theallow-endentry. - Change the value to false. Keep the YAML indentation and spelling intact:

allow-end: false- Save the file. Check that the filename remains exactly
bukkit.yml, rather than a text-editor variant such asbukkit.yml.txt. - Start or restart the server. The setting is read during startup. A reload command is not a substitute for a full stop and start.
- Test the result. With the server running, try a normal activated End portal. When the setting is working, the portal does not transfer the player to The End.
Paper’s official configuration reference describes settings.allow-end as “Whether to load end-type dimensions.” The Paper documentation page carrying that description was last updated May 12, 2025.

What disabling The End actually does
allow-end: false disables normal loading and access to the End dimension. It is not a world deletion command and it does not reset the dimension.
End portals no longer provide entry
Players who activate an End portal remain in the Overworld instead of being transferred. MC-Node describes the visible result as: “Players who activate an End portal now simply stay in the Overworld; the portal does nothing.” The portal frame and its blocks can still exist in the world, but the dimension transition is blocked.

Existing End data is retained
On Bukkit-derived servers, the existing End world data is preserved when the switch is turned off. Structures, player builds, inventories stored there, and other saved data are not removed by this configuration change. If you later set the value back to true, the saved dimension can be loaded again.
Players already in The End need warning
EmeraldHost reports that players who are already in The End are moved back to the Overworld on their next login after the dimension is disabled. Announce the change before stopping the server so players can leave End chests, retrieve equipment, and record where they were working. Treat the move as an operational consequence, not as a way to safely evacuate valuable items without notice.
Which server software has allow-end?
The file and setting belong to Bukkit-derived server software. The platform determines whether the direct procedure above is available.

MC-Node identifies bukkit.yml on Paper, Purpur, and Spigot. EmeraldHost also includes Folia among the Bukkit-based servers that expose the switch. Exact panel names and file-manager layouts vary by host, but the file must be in the server’s active root, not in a local Minecraft client directory.

Why you cannot find allow-end
You are looking in server.properties
allow-nether is the Nether control in server.properties. It is not the End control. Paper’s documentation treats these as separate files: the server.properties reference documents the Nether option, while the bukkit.yml reference documents settings.allow-end.
Your server is not Bukkit-derived
If bukkit.yml is absent from the active server root, the installation is probably Vanilla, Fabric, or Forge; NeoForge is also covered by this limitation. Installing a plugin that expects Bukkit configuration will not create a reliable built-in switch on those platforms. Choose a compatible mod or datapack, or migrate to a Bukkit-derived server if that fits your mod and plugin requirements.
The panel is showing the wrong directory
Some hosting panels open a configuration subdirectory or a backup area first. Look for the directory that contains the running server JAR and the main world folder. If you edit a copy elsewhere, the running server will not read it.
The YAML structure is malformed
YAML uses indentation to associate allow-end with settings. Use spaces rather than tabs and retain the two-space indentation shown below:

settings:
allow-end: falseDo not add quotation marks, a trailing comment in place of the value, or a second allow-end entry in another section. If the server reports a configuration parse error, restore the backup and correct the indentation before starting it again.
Disable only The End, not the Nether
You can disable The End while leaving Nether travel enabled. Change only allow-end in bukkit.yml; do not change allow-nether in server.properties.

Therefore, a server can keep Nether portals working while End portals stop transferring players.
Choose between a complete block and selective access
The built-in switch is an all-or-nothing server-wide control. If the goal is to keep The End available for moderators or a particular group, leave allow-end enabled and control entry with a plugin.

Complete exclusion
- Set
allow-end: false. - Normal End portals stop working for everyone.
- Existing End data remains available for a later re-enable.
- You must also review teleport commands if players should have no route to the dimension.
Selective access
MC-Node recommends access-control plugins for selective policies. WorldGuard can deny entry around the portal while permissions allow approved players. Multiverse can manage access by world. The precise permission nodes and configuration syntax depend on the installed plugin version, so use that plugin’s documentation for the rule you intend to enforce.

Selective controls are more flexible but add an additional failure point: a permission inheritance mistake, an unprotected portal location, or a plugin conflict can reopen access. Test with both an approved and an unapproved account.
Prevent teleport commands from bypassing the block
Portal blocking does not necessarily stop administrative or teleport commands. MC-Node specifically warns that commands such as /warp or /tp can bypass portal blocking when a player has access to them.
If complete exclusion is required, review your permissions system after changing allow-end:
- Remove ordinary players’ access to commands that can target the End.
- Check warp destinations and delete or restrict any warp located in The End.
- Review staff, inherited, and wildcard permission groups rather than checking only the default group.
- Test a normal player account, a moderator account, and the console or administrator path separately.
This does not alter the dimension setting; it closes alternate routes that operate outside normal portal travel.

Disabling the dimension preserves its world data. Resetting it is a separate, destructive operation that deletes the existing End world so the server can generate a new one.
- Stop the server. Never delete a loaded dimension.
- Make a complete backup. Copy the relevant world directory and verify that the backup can be restored before proceeding.
- Identify the End directory for your layout. On many Paper-style installations it is a sibling folder named
world_the_end. In a Vanilla layout, the End is commonly stored in the main world directory’sDIM1folder. - Delete only the intended End data. Do not remove the Overworld folder, the Nether folder, or the entire server directory.
- Start the server. On the next load, the missing End dimension is generated again.
- Verify the new world. Check the seed and generated terrain before allowing players to move valuable items into it.
Folder names can differ when a server uses a custom world name or a world-management plugin. If you are uncertain which directory is the End, stop and confirm the layout from the server’s world configuration or restore from the backup rather than guessing.

To restore normal End loading on a Bukkit-derived server, stop the server, open bukkit.yml, and change the value back to:
settings:
allow-end: trueSave the file and start the server. If you only disabled the setting, the preserved End world should be available again. If you deleted the world directory, re-enabling the setting will generate a new dimension rather than recover the old one; recovery requires restoring the backup.
Troubleshoot a change that appears not to work

Operational checklist before changing the setting
- Confirm that the server runs Paper, Spigot, Purpur, or Folia if you expect
bukkit.yml. - Tell players when the change will happen and that End occupants may return to the Overworld on their next login.
- Ask players to remove items from End chests and record any active projects.
- Stop the server before editing.
- Back up the server before any reset or deletion.
- Change only
settings.allow-endif the Nether should remain enabled. - Restart fully and test a normal portal.
- Audit teleport and warp permissions if no route to The End should remain.

For the usual “disable The End but keep the Nether” request, the safest answer is the reversible configuration toggle: edit bukkit.yml, set settings.allow-end to false, restart, and leave server.properties unchanged.
