How to Disable Links from Unknown Senders in AOL Mail

AOL Mail offers controls for blocking senders and limiting messages to contacts, but its current Help pages do not document a setting to disable links from unknown senders.

AOL’s current Help pages do not document a setting that disables links from unknown senders. You can review sender and privacy controls under Settings → More Settings → Security, but those controls affect which messages you receive—not whether links inside a message work.

How to find AOL Mail’s related security settings

  1. Sign in to AOL Mail.
  2. Click Settings, then choose More Settings.
  3. Select Security to review the sender and privacy controls available for your account.
  4. Choose a control only if it fits what you want to do, then click Save when prompted.

This is AOL’s documented route to the relevant settings area, not a link-disabling procedure. The controls shown may vary by account or interface. AOL’s settings guide describes the navigation and security settings.

What AOL’s sender controls do—and do not do

Block unwanted senders

AOL documents sender blocking as a way to manage unwanted incoming messages. It addresses messages from a sender; AOL’s current help pages do not say that blocking disables links in messages already received or in messages from other unknown senders. AOL’s settings guide and AOL’s Mail overview describe sender controls, not a link-disable switch.

Allow messages only from contacts

AOL’s overview describes an option to receive messages only from people in your contact list. This can limit messages from unfamiliar senders, but it may also keep legitimate first-time senders from reaching you. It is a message-acceptance rule—not a documented way to neutralize links in mail you have already received. AOL’s Mail overview

What to do with a suspicious message

  • Do not click a link in a message you do not trust.
  • Use AOL’s available spam or reporting controls to flag unwanted mail. AOL lists sender blocking and spam management among its mail settings; the reviewed help pages do not provide a link-specific safety workflow. AOL Mail settings index
  • If the message asks you to sign in, pay, or share personal information, verify the request through a contact method or website you already know is official, rather than using the message’s link.

What AOL’s documentation establishes

AOL’s current Help documentation covers sender blocking, spam management, and a contacts-only option, but does not list a setting specifically for disabling links from unknown senders. That means there is no documented link-disable control to follow in these sources; it does not prove that no account-specific or legacy interface could ever expose one.
