To stop Ragnarok Ice Wyverns from spawning on an ARK: Survival Evolved server, add this replacement rule to the server’s Game.ini (or the host’s Game Settings editor):
Prefer not to run the server on your own PC? Godlike.Host offers hosted ARK: Survival Evolved servers with free DDoS protection and up to three free backups a day.
NPCReplacements=(FromClassName="Ragnarok_Wyvern_Override_Ice_C",ToClassName="")
The empty ToClassName tells ARK not to replace the matching class with another creature, which disables that spawn class. This controls future spawning; it does not automatically remove Ice Wyverns that are already present in the world.

ARK’s NPCReplacements configuration uses a source class and a destination class. The FromClassName value identifies the creature class ARK would normally spawn. The ToClassName value identifies what should spawn instead. Leaving the destination empty is the disable form: matching spawns are suppressed rather than converted to another creature.
The ARK Official Community Wiki describes this syntax as a way to disable a specific NPC spawn completely. Because the rule operates on a class identifier, it is precise when the identifier is correct. It does not switch off every wyvern, every creature in the snow biome, or every Ice Wyvern class on every map automatically.

Use the Ragnarok class only for Ragnarok’s class
For Ragnarok, the documented Ice Wyvern class is Ragnarok_Wyvern_Override_Ice_C. Another Ice Wyvern implementation is documented as Wyvern_Character_BP_Ice_C. These names are not interchangeable labels; they are class identifiers used by particular map or game implementations.
Before editing the server, establish which map and game version the server is running and which class it uses. Applying the Ragnarok identifier to a server that uses the other class will leave that server’s Ice Wyvern spawns unchanged. If a cluster or custom setup uses both relevant classes, create one replacement entry for each class. Do not assume that a class name found in a guide for one map applies to all maps.

- Stop or prepare the server for a configuration change. Follow the host’s normal maintenance procedure so that a configuration save is not overwritten while you edit it. If players are online, announce the restart or maintenance window.
- Open the server’s Game.ini settings. On a self-managed server, edit the server’s
Game.ini. On a managed server, open the control panel’s configuration area; it may be labelled Config, Game Settings, or a similar editor. The exact navigation and restart controls differ by host. - Add the replacement entry. Put the Ragnarok entry shown above in the
Game.iniconfiguration. Keep the spelling, capitalization, underscores, parentheses, commas, equals signs, and quotation marks exactly as shown. The destination value must remain an empty pair of quotes. - Preserve other settings. Add the entry as its own configuration line rather than replacing unrelated settings. If the file already contains other
NPCReplacementsentries, retain them and add this one separately. Do not combine several replacement expressions into one malformed line. - Save through the host’s normal workflow. A web panel may require an explicit Save, Apply, or Update action. A file-based setup requires saving the edited file in the server’s normal configuration location. The available controls vary, so use the labels provided by that host.
- Restart or reload as required by that setup. ARK must start with the updated configuration for the rule to take effect. There is no single reload behavior guaranteed for every hosting panel, so use that host’s documented restart or reload process. If the panel queues changes until restart, complete the restart rather than relying on a browser save alone.
- Test on the intended map. After the server is back online, allow the relevant spawn areas to repopulate naturally. A creature that spawned before the rule was loaded can still be present, so its existence alone does not prove that the replacement failed.
Existing Ice Wyverns require a separate decision
NPCReplacements governs spawning. It is not a targeted deletion command, and the setting does not establish that already spawned wild Ice Wyverns disappear. If you need a clean test, first decide whether removing every wild creature on the server is acceptable.

Broad cleanup with destroywilddinos
The server-configuration documentation gives cheat destroywilddinos as a cleanup command for existing wild creatures. It is a broad reset: it removes all wild creatures, not only Ice Wyverns. New wild creatures then repopulate according to the active spawn configuration.
Use that command only during a planned maintenance window and only when a world-wide wild-creature reset is acceptable. It can remove desirable wild tames-in-the-wild, rare spawns, and creatures players were tracking. It is not an appropriate substitute for the replacement rule, and it is not a precision Ice Wyvern deletion tool.
When not to run a broad reset
- Do not use it merely because one Ice Wyvern remains after the configuration change; that creature may have spawned earlier.
- Do not run it on a live server without warning players about the loss of all wild creatures.
- Do not describe the result as “deleting Ice Wyverns only.” The command affects every wild creature.
- Keep the spawn-prevention entry even if you perform the reset; the reset clears the current population, while the entry governs later spawning.
Handling other maps, versions, and server clusters
The class name is the compatibility boundary. Ragnarok’s override class is the correct value for Ragnarok when that implementation is active. A server using Wyvern_Character_BP_Ice_C needs a replacement entry whose FromClassName names that class and whose ToClassName is empty.

For a cluster with separate map servers, treat each server’s Game.ini as an independent configuration. A line saved on one map server does not prove that another map server has the same rule. Apply the appropriate class entry to each server, and avoid copying the Ragnarok line blindly to a map that uses a different implementation.
Multiple relevant classes
If the target server genuinely spawns Ice Wyverns through both documented classes, add separate NPCReplacements lines, one per class. Keep each expression syntactically complete. The important distinction is that one line matches one source class; an entry for one class does not act as a wildcard for another.
Custom content and modifications
Custom maps, mods, or version changes can introduce their own class identifiers. A replacement line can only match the class name used by the running server. If you cannot establish the active identifier, do not infer it from a creature’s display name. Confirm the class associated with the target map or implementation first, then use a replacement entry for that exact class.

How to verify that the rule is working
- Confirm the file or panel value. Reopen the saved Game.ini editor and check that the entry is still present after saving. Some panels normalize formatting; what matters is that the complete replacement expression remains intact.
- Confirm the correct server. On a cluster, verify that you edited the Ragnarok server rather than a neighboring map’s configuration. A correct line on the wrong server has no effect on the target map.
- Confirm the map and class assumption. Check that the server is using the Ragnarok implementation represented by
Ragnarok_Wyvern_Override_Ice_C. If the server usesWyvern_Character_BP_Ice_C, the Ragnarok line will not match it. - Allow a normal spawn cycle. The setting prevents matching future spawns; it does not necessarily purge creatures that were already loaded. Test after the server has had time to repopulate the relevant area.
- Separate spawn testing from population cleanup. If an existing Ice Wyvern is still visible, that is a population-cleanup question, not proof that the rule failed. Only use the broad destroy command if its all-wild-creature impact is acceptable.
Troubleshooting common failures
The line is saved, but Ice Wyverns still spawn
- Check that the server actually restarted or reloaded the configuration after the save.
- Check for typographical errors in the class name, especially capitalization, underscores, and the
_Csuffix. - Check that the line is in
Game.inior the panel field that writes to Game.ini, not in a different configuration file. - Check that you edited the server hosting the affected map.
- Check the map/version class. The Ragnarok identifier does not match every Ice Wyvern implementation.
- Check that the destination remains empty:
ToClassName="". A non-empty destination requests a replacement creature rather than disabling the spawn.
An Ice Wyvern remains after the change
First determine when it spawned. The replacement rule controls future spawning, so a wild creature already in the world can remain. If you need to clear the existing wild population, the available documented command is the broad cheat destroywilddinos reset. Do not use it unless removing all wild creatures is an intentional outcome.
Other creatures disappear or change unexpectedly
Review every existing NPCReplacements entry. A replacement rule should identify only the intended source class. Remove accidental duplicates or broad entries, restore the previous configuration from a known backup if necessary, and restart using the host’s normal process. The Ice Wyvern disable line itself targets the specified class; unrelated changes usually indicate another configuration entry or an incorrectly identified class.
The panel rejects the entry
Use the panel’s Game Settings or raw Game.ini editor rather than a field intended for a different configuration file. Enter the expression as one complete line, including parentheses and quoted values. If the panel has separate fields for key and value, use its documented syntax for a raw configuration entry instead of splitting the expression into arbitrary fields.
Best Value
Disabling versus replacing Ice Wyverns
Leaving ToClassName empty is a disable operation. A non-empty destination would ask ARK to substitute another class, which is a different design: it preserves a spawn event but changes the creature produced. For a server that wants no Ice Wyvern spawns, an empty destination is the relevant form.
A replacement is useful only when you have deliberately selected a valid destination class and understand its consequences. It can alter the creature population rather than reduce it, so it should not be presented as equivalent to suppression. This guide’s Ragnarok rule uses an empty destination specifically to prevent the matching class from spawning.
Operational checklist
- Identify the exact map and server version before choosing a class name.
- For Ragnarok’s documented implementation, use
Ragnarok_Wyvern_Override_Ice_C. - If the running implementation uses
Wyvern_Character_BP_Ice_C, create a separate entry for that class. - Place the complete
NPCReplacementsexpression inGame.inior the host’s Game Settings editor. - Keep the destination class empty when the goal is to disable spawning.
- Save and restart or reload according to the server host’s documented workflow.
- Remember that the rule affects future spawns, not necessarily existing wild creatures.
- Use
cheat destroywilddinosonly when a reset of every wild creature is acceptable. - For a cluster, apply and verify the appropriate configuration on each map server separately.
Decision table: which action fits your goal?
| Action | Future Ice Wyvern spawns | Existing wild creatures | Precision | Main risk or limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Add the class-specific NPCReplacements entry |
Prevents matching-class spawns after the configuration loads | Does not establish removal | One identified class | Fails if the map/version uses a different class or the server is not restarted |
| Add a second entry for another documented Ice Wyvern class | Prevents that additional matching class | Does not establish removal | One additional identified class | Requires the class to be genuinely used by the target server |
Run cheat destroywilddinos |
Does not replace the configuration rule | Removes all wild creatures | Not precise to Ice Wyverns | Broad world-wide reset and player-visible population loss |
| Use a non-empty replacement destination | Substitutes another class instead of disabling the spawn | Does not establish removal | Depends on the selected destination | Changes the population rather than eliminating the spawn |
Rolling the change back
To restore the previous behavior, remove the Ice Wyvern replacement entry from the Game.ini configuration or restore the prior saved configuration, then save and restart according to the same host workflow. Removing the line does not retroactively recreate wild creatures that were cleared with destroywilddinos; it only removes the prevention rule for later spawning.
If you tested with the broad cleanup command, warn players that the wild population must repopulate naturally. Keep a dated backup of the pre-change Game.ini so that rollback does not depend on reconstructing a long configuration file by hand.
