Turn it off in the specific game or account first, then check the console, computer, or mobile platform controls. The correct setting depends on the game, edition, account type, region, and whether the AI was built by the game publisher or added by an individual creator.
The controls below cover documented options in Fortnite, Roblox, and Minecraft Bedrock, followed by a procedure you can use in any other game. They address conversational and generative features—such as AI characters, free-text chat, image generation, and voice interaction—not ordinary game AI used for enemy pathfinding, aiming, matchmaking, moderation, analytics, or other background systems.

What “turning off AI” can mean
Games use the word AI for several different systems. A setting that blocks one category may leave another untouched, so identify the behavior you want to stop before changing anything.
Generative features players can interact with
- Conversational characters: non-player characters that generate replies in text or voice instead of selecting only prewritten dialogue.
- Free-text or voice AI chat: a model responds to what a player types or says.
- Image, asset, or 3D generation: a service creates pictures, objects, animations, or other content from a prompt.
- AI-driven avatar movement: a model changes an avatar’s actions in response to player input.
- Automated support: a help or account-support assistant that uses a model to answer questions.
Conventional game AI
Enemy pathfinding, scripted companion behavior, bot opponents, traffic systems, and similar logic are generally not generative-AI interactions. The controls documented here do not promise to remove those systems. A communication toggle can prevent a child from chatting with a generated character while leaving ordinary non-player-character behavior exactly as designed.

Why a cross-game switch does not exist
Each service decides where its feature is hosted and who controls it. A publisher may place a control in an account’s parental settings, a developer may add a toggle inside one experience, or a world creator may enable an experiment that the platform itself does not govern. Platform communication settings add another layer. Consequently, disabling voice or free-text communication in one game is not a guarantee that an AI support assistant, creator-made character, or another game’s feature is disabled.
| Feature you want to stop | Most likely control location | What the control may cover |
|---|---|---|
| Publisher-provided AI character or AI chat | Game account, parental controls, or in-game privacy menu | Voice, written prompts, or both |
| Creator-made chatbot or generated assets | That experience’s settings, creator documentation, or account controls | Only the individual experience; coverage varies |
| World-specific experimental feature | World or save-game settings | That world, often with a separate experimental status |
| Console or mobile voice/text communication | Platform account and family controls | Platform chat and access to communication services, not necessarily in-game generation |
| AI-powered customer support | Support service or publisher account | May remain available when player communication is off |
Prepare before changing a setting
These checks prevent the most common mistake: turning off a setting that is unrelated to the feature a child or player is actually using.
- Name the exact behavior. Write down whether the concern is a talking NPC, free-text chat, voice interaction, image generation, avatar movement, or an automated support window. Capture the game mode or experience name as well.
- Identify the account. Determine whether the game is using a child account, a supervised family account, or an adult account. Some controls apply only to a child account and are protected by a parental-control PIN.
- Record the platform and edition. Note whether the player is on a console, Windows, iOS, Android, or another supported device, and whether the title is a particular edition such as Bedrock. Menu labels can differ by edition and can change after an update.
- Check location and rollout status. Generative features can be experimental, region-limited, or available only to selected accounts. A missing switch may mean the feature is not enabled, not that it is permanently impossible to block.
- Back up anything that may be affected. World-level experiments can change how a save is classified and, in some games, cannot be reversed. Copy a valuable world or save before changing an experimental option.
Fortnite and other Epic-owned experiences
Epic provides a documented parental control named Allow voice and written communication with AI Features. The setting is intended for a child’s Epic Games Account and covers Epic-owned experiences, including Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys, regardless of which supported platform is used to play them.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTurn off AI communication online
- Sign in to the child’s Epic Games Account.
- Open Parental Controls.
- Enter the parental-control PIN when prompted.
- Open General.
- Scroll to Allow voice and written communication with AI Features.
- Set the control to Off, then save or confirm if the page asks for confirmation.
Epic describes the off state as preventing the child from interacting with Epic AI features through voice and free-text written communication. This is an account-level parental setting, so it is the appropriate first place to act when the goal is to restrict a child across Epic’s own experiences.
Turn it off from Fortnite
- Open Fortnite and open the sidebar.
- Select the hamburger menu.
- Choose Parental Controls.
- Enter the parental-control PIN if required.
- Scroll to AI Features.
- Turn the AI communication setting off.
If the in-game label does not match the web label exactly, use the description of voice and written communication as the identifier. Labels and menu placement can change with updates, so verify that the change is attached to the intended child account rather than only to the current device.

What Epic’s control does and does not cover
The setting blocks interaction with Epic AI features through voice and free-text written communication. Epic explicitly says it does not apply to AI-powered player-support interactions. A child could therefore be unable to converse with an AI character while still seeing an automated support tool in an account-help context. Do not treat the communication switch as a promise that every automated service disappears.
The setting also does not automatically govern every communication channel supplied by the device platform. If the aim is to restrict voice or text access comprehensively, review the relevant family and communication controls on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Windows, iOS, or Google Play in addition to the Epic setting.
Fortnite’s Conversations feature
On April 16, 2026, Epic described Fortnite’s Conversations system as an experimental feature for AI-powered characters with personalities and voices that react to player actions. Epic’s announcement said publishing projects that used the system was not yet available at that time. Because this was an experimental, changing feature, check the current Epic account and Fortnite documentation if you are looking for a setting after a later update. The parental control remains the relevant documented method for restricting voice and written interaction with Epic AI features, but a newly introduced feature can have additional requirements or a different rollout.
Roblox: identify the experience and its creator
Roblox’s official documentation emphasizes disclosure and creator governance rather than describing one universal player-facing AI kill switch. When an experience lets a player interact with a generative model in a way that triggers a response—through text chat, voice chat, images, 3D generation, or avatar movement—the creator must disclose that use in the Content Maturity questionnaire.
Why the experience matters
Roblox experiences can contain creator-made systems as well as services supplied by the platform. A setting in one experience may have no effect in another. A creator can also decide how the model is reached, what data is sent, and whether the feature is available only in a particular mode. The platform’s disclosure requirement does not mean that every experience exposes the same disable control.

Games designed for continuous chatbot-like interaction or cross-session AI memory must answer Yes to the Extended AI question and receive a Restricted maturity label. That label is a classification and disclosure mechanism, not a guarantee that a single account switch will disable the feature.

Steps for a Roblox player or parent
- Open the exact experience and note its name and creator.
- Read the experience description, maturity information, and any AI disclosure before allowing play.
- Open the experience’s own settings and look for communication, privacy, safety, or AI options.
- Review the Roblox account’s available parental and communication controls for the child’s account.
- If the experience offers no control, contact the creator or stop using that experience rather than assuming a platform-wide opt-out exists.
- Use the console, computer, or mobile platform’s communication controls as a separate layer.
Do not promise a universal Roblox opt-out unless Roblox publishes one for the specific feature and account type. A creator-controlled chatbot can remain available even when ordinary platform chat is restricted, and disabling platform chat may not stop generated images or other non-chat interactions.
Minecraft Bedrock: world-level experiments
Minecraft’s official Bedrock instructions cover experimental gameplay toggles at the individual world level. This is not a general generative-AI switch. Use it only when the feature you want to avoid is explicitly listed under that world’s experimental settings.
Change an experiment setting
- Open the world’s Game settings.
- Scroll to Experiments.
- Select the relevant experiment toggle.
- Read the warning and confirm only if you understand the effect on that world.
Minecraft marks a world that uses experiments as Experimental. The official warning says an experimental world cannot later be restored to a non-experimental state. Copy a valuable world before enabling, disabling, or otherwise changing an experiment. Keep the original copy untouched so you have a known, non-experimental backup.
Know the limit of this control
A normal, non-experimental world can still contain content supplied by a creator, server, add-on, or another service. Conversely, changing an experiment toggle will not necessarily affect an AI feature that is controlled by an account, a server, or a platform communication layer. Confirm that the feature’s own instructions point to the world’s Experiments menu before relying on this setting.

A repeatable procedure for any other game
Use the following sequence when the title is not one of the documented examples above.
- Describe the feature precisely. Is it a conversational NPC, free-text prompt, image or asset generator, voice interaction, or support assistant? Take a screenshot of the prompt or menu if the name is unclear.
- Search the official support site using the feature’s exact name. Include the edition, platform, and “parental controls,” “privacy,” or “disable” in the search terms. Prefer instructions for the current version and region.
- Inspect the game menus. Check Privacy, Communication, Accessibility, and Experimental or Beta sections. A communication setting may cover voice and text but not image generation or support tools.
- Apply the narrowest documented switch. Read its scope before confirming: child account versus all players, one world versus every save, one experience versus the whole service, and voice versus written communication.
- Review platform controls separately. Console, Windows, iOS, and Google Play family settings can restrict platform communication or access, but they may not control an AI system embedded in a game.
- Test in a low-risk session. Re-enter the game with the affected account, open the specific AI feature, and confirm whether it is unavailable. Do not test by entering personal information or by using a valuable save that could be altered.
- Document the result. Record the date, game version, account, platform, setting name, and what remained available. This makes it easier to spot a later change after an update.
Platform controls are a separate layer
When the concern is a child’s communication access, game settings are only one part of the decision. Review the family and privacy controls for the platform on which the game is played: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Windows, iOS, or Google Play. Look specifically for controls over voice chat, text or messaging, friend requests, user-generated content, and purchases.
Platform controls can reduce access to communication services even when a game does not offer a suitable AI toggle. They can also be insufficient on their own: a creator-made feature that generates an image or moves an avatar may not use the platform’s chat system. Treat the platform setting and the in-game setting as complementary, not interchangeable.
Diagnose a setting that appears not to work
| Symptom | Likely explanation | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| The AI character is gone, but an automated support assistant remains. | The communication control excludes AI-powered player support. | Review the support service’s own account or privacy options; do not assume the player-facing switch covers it. |
| Voice chat is blocked, but generated images or assets still appear. | The switch covers voice or written communication only. | Look for a separate image, asset, creation, or experience setting. |
| The control changed on one device but not another. | The setting may be local, or the wrong account may be signed in. | Confirm the account identity, sign out and back in, and check the web account page. |
| A child can still use a creator-made chatbot. | The platform or publisher control may not govern that individual experience. | Inspect the experience’s settings and maturity disclosure, then restrict access to that experience if no opt-out exists. |
| An option is missing. | The feature may be experimental, region-limited, unavailable to the account, or renamed after an update. | Check the current official documentation for the same edition, region, and account type. |
| A Minecraft world remains marked Experimental. | Changing an experiment does not restore a world to its original non-experimental status. | Use the backup made before the change if a non-experimental copy is required. |
How to compare controls across games
When evaluating a game for a child or deciding whether to permit a new AI feature, compare the controls on six axes rather than asking only whether the game has an “AI off” button.

Practical guidance for parents
Start with the child’s account, not the device you happen to be holding. A local toggle can be bypassed by signing in elsewhere, while an account-level setting follows the child across supported devices. Protect parental-control PINs, and verify that the child is not using a second account with different permissions.
Best Value
Explain what the rule covers. “AI is off” is too broad if the actual setting blocks only voice and free-text interaction. Tell the child whether images, creator-made experiences, ordinary game bots, or support tools are still available. This avoids a false sense of safety and makes it easier to report a feature that falls outside the documented scope.
Review the setting after major updates. Experimental features can change names, move menus, or expand from a test to a wider rollout. Recheck the game version, account type, region, and platform whenever a new AI character or creation tool appears.
What these controls cannot guarantee
No documented player setting shown here disables every process that a company might call AI. Moderation, matchmaking, analytics, fraud detection, recommendation systems, support automation, and creator tools can be separate services. The controls described in this guide are interaction controls: they limit a player’s ability to communicate with or invoke a specified generative feature. They are not a promise that no model runs anywhere in the game’s infrastructure.
The most reliable result comes from combining a precise feature definition, the game’s own account or experience setting, the platform’s communication controls, and a direct verification test. If any layer is undocumented, state that limitation rather than treating a missing switch as proof that the feature is disabled.
