The available controls depend on the brand and generation: Ray-Ban Meta offers app settings for voice preferences and captures, while supported Amazon Echo Frames and Carrera Smart Glasses have a documented physical microphone mute. Bose Frames voice prompts are separate from microphone controls. Check your glasses’ exact model and the companion app version before following steps.
First identify what you want to turn off
“Turn off Hey Meta or Alexa,” “mute the microphone,” and “disable the camera” describe different actions. An assistant or wake-word setting changes how you interact with the glasses; it does not necessarily cut power to a microphone. A microphone mute may stop audio recording and streaming without disabling the camera. Spoken prompts are notifications, not proof that a microphone is active or muted. A capture light signals certain camera activity; it is not a shutter or confirmation that every sensor is off.

- Stop voice-assistant interactions: Look for a voice or assistant setting in the glasses’ companion app.
- Stop microphone recording or streaming: Use a model-specific microphone mute if the manufacturer documents one.
- Stop camera captures: Look for a camera control for your exact model. Do not assume one exists because the glasses have an app or a capture light.
- Make the device inactive: Use its physical power control, following the manual for that model.
Ray-Ban Meta: turn off voice features and manage captures
Disable Voice or Hey Meta
- Open the Meta AI companion app and go to Settings → Voice, or select your glasses and open Voice. Labels and navigation can differ by app version, region, and glasses generation.
- Turn off Voice and/or the Hey Meta preference, depending on whether you want to disable assistant interactions generally or the wake phrase specifically. The Ray-Ban Meta FAQ documents these settings: Ray-Ban Meta FAQ.
This is an assistant setting, not a documented physical microphone disconnect. The FAQ also describes a “Microphone adjustment” in the app’s glasses/privacy and microphone-troubleshooting area; it is a call-audio troubleshooting adjustment, not a general microphone mute. Do not treat it as a privacy switch.

Camera captures and the capture LED
Meta describes app controls for captures, voice, and notifications. It says photos and videos stay on the glasses until you transfer them to a phone using the app, and that capture and recording for gallery or streaming activate notification/capture LEDs. Those controls and lights concern capture preferences and signaling; the reviewed official information does not establish a universal camera-disable toggle for every Ray-Ban Meta generation. If you need the glasses fully inactive, use the physical power control for your exact model or put them away powered off. Verify the control in the current model manual; turning off a voice preference alone does not establish that the camera or all microphones are off.
Amazon Echo Frames and Carrera Smart Glasses: mute the microphone
Use the Action button for your generation
- Find the relevant Action button. Amazon identifies the main Action button on Echo Frames 1st and 2nd Gen, and the front Action button on Echo Frames 3rd Gen and Carrera Smart Glasses.
- Double-press that button to mute the microphones.
- Confirm the status light flashes red. Amazon says muted supported glasses cannot record and stream audio to the Amazon cloud, including when you say the wake word or use the glasses controls to invoke Alexa or a phone assistant. See Amazon’s Alexa and Alexa Device FAQs.
Button placement differs by generation, so check the instructions for your exact glasses. Do not use camera instructions for Echo Show or other Echo home devices as a guide: Amazon’s separate microphone and camera controls for Echo devices do not establish that Echo Frames or Carrera glasses have cameras.

Bose Frames: disable spoken prompts, or power off
Turn off voice prompts
The Bose Frames Rondo owner’s guide says voice prompts can be disabled in the Bose Connect app and notes that doing so also disables notifications. This changes spoken prompts; it does not establish that the microphone is muted. Consult the Bose Frames Rondo Owner’s Guide for the app setting.

Bose documents turning Frames Soprano off with the temple button or, where enabled, by flipping the glasses upside down. These are power controls, not a general microphone-mute setting. Follow Bose’s model-specific Frames Soprano power instructions. The reviewed Bose guidance does not establish a camera or a general microphone mute control for these models.

When you need all capture functions inactive
Use the model’s actual power control, rather than relying on an assistant toggle, a silent prompt setting, or a capture LED. If the device is powered on but its controls do not clearly confirm camera or microphone status, the available documentation may not establish that those components are inactive. Check the current manual for your exact model and generation; when necessary, power the glasses off and put them away.
