There is no universal camera or microphone switch for smart glasses. On Ray-Ban Meta, you can turn off Voice Control or power down the glasses; the documented Voice Control setting is not described as a global microphone kill switch. On Apple Vision Pro, you can revoke camera and microphone access for individual apps in Settings. If you own another model, check its current maker instructions rather than assuming that changing your phone’s permissions disables hardware on the glasses.
Ray-Ban Meta: turn off Voice Control or power down the glasses
Turn off Voice Control
- Open the Meta AI app.
- Open Settings, then tap Voice.
- Toggle Voice Control off.
Meta’s Ray-Ban | Meta FAQ describes this as the setting to turn Voice on or off. It limits voice interaction, but the FAQ does not identify it as a global microphone permission or hardware kill switch.

Turn the glasses off
- Slide the power switch on the left frame toward the rear/off position.
- Check that the red indicator appears next to the switch; the FAQ identifies this as the off state.
This shuts down the device rather than selectively changing camera or microphone access. The FAQ also lists a Microphone adjustment toggle under Settings > Glasses & privacy > Your glasses > Microphone troubleshooting. That is a microphone-performance troubleshooting control, not a privacy-off setting.

Apple Vision Pro: revoke access for specific apps
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Choose Camera or Microphone.
- Turn access on or off for each listed app.
Apple says apps must request permission before using these features. These are app-specific permissions, not a single switch that powers off all camera or microphone hardware. Apple Vision Pro shows a green dot for screen recording, view sharing or Persona Virtual Camera use, and an orange dot when an app or feature uses the microphone without Persona Virtual Camera. What the capture light does—and does not—tell you
Meta’s July 2026 FAQ states, “The capture LED has no off switch.” The light blinks while content is being captured for the gallery. Meta says covering or disabling the LED automatically disables the camera; do not cover the light as a way to keep recording without an indicator. Meta also describes protections against taking a photo or video when the light is covered and advises asking permission before capturing people and avoiding sensitive locations. Gallery capture and AI camera use are not identical. Meta’s FAQ says newer models may use the camera for some AI features without lighting the capture LED. First-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses may illuminate it for some AI features because of hardware limitations. A dark LED therefore does not prove that the camera is unused.

Meta says captures remain on the glasses until the wearer chooses to import them to a phone. That describes the capture-import workflow; it is not a guarantee about every form of processing or data handling. Meta’s July 2026 explanation is available in Meta’s AI Glasses: Your Questions Answered.

For other smart-glasses models
Find the exact model and software version, then consult the manufacturer’s current device or app instructions for camera, microphone, voice-assistant and power controls. Phone-level permissions may govern a companion app without disabling a camera or microphone built into the glasses; do not treat them as a substitute for a glasses-specific control unless the maker says they apply. The controls and capture-light behavior described here are specific to the documented Ray-Ban Meta and Apple Vision Pro examples.
