To remove Apple Intelligence from macOS 27 Golden Gate, you can use the third-party RemoveMacAI utility, which its developer describes as a reversible way to turn off Apple Intelligence features, remove their downloaded models and block those models from downloading again. The project lists Apple-silicon Macs running macOS 27 as supported; it does not list macOS 26 or earlier as compatible.
What RemoveMacAI changes
RemoveMacAI is an open-source project with a native app and a command-line interface; it is not an Apple utility. Its documentation says the Apple Intelligence controls can disable selected features, remove associated models and prevent those models from being fetched again. These are the project author’s documented capabilities, not independently verified results. See the RemoveMacAI project documentation.

Check compatibility before you start
The project lists Apple silicon as a requirement and macOS 27 as supported; macOS 26 and earlier are listed as unsupported. For macOS 27.0.1, the README specifies RemoveMacAI version 0.2.3 or later. Compatibility can change, so check the project’s current README and release notes before applying changes. The available sources do not establish an official Apple option that removes Apple Intelligence models. If you only want to stop using a particular feature, consider macOS’s individual controls first. If your goal is to manage features and models together, RemoveMacAI is the documented third-party option described here.

How to turn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27
RemoveMacAI offers both an app and a CLI. The project documents the following CLI commands; review the proposed changes before applying them, as the project says changes can be reviewed and undone.

removemacai revertto remove the configuration profile and restore the previous settings, as described by the project.
The project says its configuration profile requires your approval in System Settings. Its documented method uses Apple’s asset service to remove models and points downloads at a closed local port to prevent them from being fetched again. The author says System Integrity Protection (SIP) remains enabled and that the tool does not modify files under /System. These are the project’s own statements, not the findings of an independent security audit.

The project author, maintainer Om Lahore, also states in the repository that “System Integrity Protection stays on, nothing under /System is modified, and RemoveMacAI makes no network requests and collects no data.” Treat that as an attributed project claim, not an independent privacy or security assessment. Review the project’s method and documentation before approving its profile.
What happens when you reverse the changes
The project says removing the profile restores previous settings, and macOS can download models again when a feature needs them. Re-enabling a feature therefore may not make it immediately ready to use: macOS may need to fetch its model. The project also notes that macOS can take time to delete released model files, so Storage settings may continue to count them for a while.

How much storage might you recover?
There is no guaranteed recovery amount. MacRumors reported that Apple Intelligence models could consume 12 GB or more and that some users reported recovering over 20 GB; those are reported figures, not a controlled or universal measurement. MacRumors, October 6, 2026 gives that estimate. OS X Daily cautioned that removal may recover roughly 7 GB–12 GB, if that, and described reports where the files still appeared under System Data. OS X Daily, October 6, 2026 discusses that caveat.
The figures differ because the amount depends on which model files are present and how macOS accounts for storage. Even after removal, visible storage totals may lag behind the change. Treat published estimates as context, not a promise about what your Mac will reclaim or when Storage settings will reflect it.
