How big a room can it cool?
Dimplex’s guidance is 18–26m² in the older model sheet and up to 26m² in the 2023–24 brochure. Consider that a sizing guide, not a guarantee of a particular temperature or cooling time. The sources do not provide independent results for different room conditions, and one ProductReview owner reported disappointing cooling in a roughly 20m² room while other owners described effective cooling.

Room size alone does not settle whether a portable air conditioner will meet your needs. The available model-specific sources do not quantify how factors such as sunlight, insulation, ceiling height, heat sources or air leakage affect DCP14MULTI performance, so avoid treating the maximum room figure as a promise for every space.
How loud is the DCP14MULTI?
The published specifications conflict. Dimplex Australia’s 2020–21 sheet gives 51dB(A), while an extracted table associated with Dimplex New Zealand’s 2024 manual lists a 70dB(A) maximum for the DCP14MULTI. The documents do not establish whether the numbers reflect different settings or measurement methods, or whether one is a documentation error. Do not assume either figure describes the noise you will experience in your room.
For a particular unit, check its rating label and the current manual, and note the conditions attached to any stated noise figure. Owner accounts are subjective and differ: some describe the fan noise as disruptive, including during sleep, while another reviewer considered it acceptable. These reports do not resolve the specification conflict.

Dimplex describes the DCP14MULTI as self-evaporative, and its 2023–24 brochure says no drip tray or drainage hose is required. That is the advertised system, not proof that water management can never be an issue. ProductReview owners have reported drainage difficulties, particularly in humid weather, and one owner said their box did not include a drainage hose. Those are individual reports, not evidence that every unit needs a hose or is missing a component.
Follow the instructions for the exact unit you own if it needs draining, and check the supplied accessories against the product documentation. The available sources do not establish one universal drainage requirement for every operating condition.

The DCP14MULTI needs an exhaust hose routed outside through a window. Dimplex describes the included window kit as suitable for sash and sliding windows. Before buying or setting it up, check that the opening and window height work with the kit, that the hose can reach without an awkward route, and that the window can be sealed around the installation.
- Window fit: Owners have reported difficulty adapting the kit to their window height or getting a stable connection.
- Hose security: Some comments describe the exhaust fitting as insecure or awkward to connect.
- Room placement: Plan the route to the window before choosing where the appliance will stand; the listed power lead is not described as long by one owner.
- Moving the unit: At 31kg net, it may be cumbersome to move between rooms, despite being portable.

These examples illustrate possible trade-offs rather than a reliable prediction. Dimplex replied to the disappointed reviewer that portable air-conditioning rating systems and refrigerants had changed over time; that response does not independently settle the specific performance complaint.
Who should consider the DCP14MULTI?
It is worth considering if your room is within Dimplex’s stated range, your window can accommodate the exhaust kit, and you are comfortable checking the unit’s noise and drainage instructions before relying on it. Look carefully at the installation details if you need to move the appliance often, have an unusual window opening, or plan to run it while sleeping.
The available evidence does not support ranking this model against competing portable air conditioners.
