You can turn off several Apple Intelligence behaviors without disabling everything. Apple’s documented individual switches cover message and email summaries, notification summaries, priority notifications, Mail Smart Replies, voicemail suggestions, Call Context cards and Journal prompts. For Writing Tools, image creation or third-party Intelligence Extensions, use Screen Time restrictions instead.
Turn off a specific Apple Intelligence behavior
Apple places these controls in the relevant app’s settings or in Notifications; there is no single dashboard for all individual switches. Open Settings and use the path for the feature you want to change:

These are the names and paths in Apple’s iOS 27 guide to turning off and restricting Apple Intelligence features. Turning off one listed behavior is the narrowest option; it does not mean every other Apple Intelligence capability has an individual switch.
Restrict Writing Tools, image creation or extensions
Apple documents these as Screen Time restrictions for feature categories, rather than individual switches for each tool. To apply one:
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Open Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions and enable Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Tap Intelligence & Siri.
- Choose the category you want to restrict and select Don’t Allow.
- Writing Tools: Choose Writing Tools to restrict access to that feature group.
- Image Playground, Genmoji and Image Wand: Choose Image Creation.
- Third-party Intelligence Extensions, such as ChatGPT: Choose Intelligence Extensions. This restricts access to the extension category; it is not a control for all Apple Intelligence features.
Apple’s Screen Time instructions describe these restrictions for supported devices. The guide is for iOS 26, while Apple’s newer iOS 27 feature guide also points to Screen Time. If a label differs on your iPhone, check for an iOS update and follow the wording shown on your device.
Turn Apple Intelligence off altogether
If you do not want Apple Intelligence available, go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and turn off Apple Intelligence. Apple says turning it off removes the on-device models. This is broader than changing a feature switch or restricting a category, so use the specific control where one is available if you want to keep other Apple Intelligence features. See Apple’s guide to getting started with Apple Intelligence.

If a setting is missing
Apple’s current iOS 27 guide lists supported iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, and iPhone 16 models or later. Apple Intelligence availability also depends on iOS version, language and region, and can vary by feature. A missing control may therefore reflect device or availability requirements rather than a misplaced setting. Check Apple’s compatibility and availability information as well as the current iPhone guide. Apple also documents notification summary and priority controls in its notification instructions.
