If an oma eval run appears green despite failed records, or CI reports a gate failure, first check whether the run actually used --gate. Then read verdict.json and the authoritative report.json to identify the failed rule before changing the policy. This guide covers the open-multi-agent project’s OMA evaluation gate, not other products or organizations called OMA.
First, determine whether the gate ran
oma eval run can execute an evaluation without enforcing a quality gate. Without --gate, low scores and records with pass: false do not by themselves change the command’s exit code. Check the exact command in your CI log for --gate <policy-file>. The project’s evaluation-in-CI guide documents this distinction.

Interpret the exit status before treating the issue as a score problem:
- Exit code 1: the gate failed, or every selected target failed.
- Exit code 2: a usage, argument, file, module, or contract error occurred. Check the command and configuration rather than adjusting score thresholds.
These meanings are documented for the current CLI reference; behavior and defaults can change between releases, so check the documentation matching your installed OMA version. See the CLI reference.

Find the run artifacts and read the verdict
By default, OMA writes results under ./eval-results/<evalRunId>/; the output root can be changed with the run’s output option. Start with verdict.json for the gate decision and report.json for the underlying evaluation records. JSON is the authoritative, machine-readable EvalRunReport. Markdown is more convenient for human review, while JUnit output maps failed records to <failure> and target or scorer errors to <error>.
In the verdict, inspect pass, failures, and warnings. For each failure, use its kind, scorer/metric/tag coordinates, actual value, configured limit, and message to identify the specific rule. The CI documentation describes these fields.
Diagnose the rule that failed
Metric threshold
Documented threshold metrics include avg, p50, p95, min, and passRate. A threshold can also be scoped with tags, limiting it to matching cases. Compare the reported coordinates and values with the policy and the records in report.json; verify that scorer and tag names match and that the selected metric has source records.

A missing scorer, missing tag, or missing source for passRate is a configuration failure, not a silent pass. Correct the policy or the evaluation data so the rule points to existing data. Do not respond to missing data by loosening an unrelated numeric limit. The official CI guide explicitly treats these cases as configuration failures.
Scorer or target health
Check whether the failure reports scorer errors or target failures. The documented default health policy fails when scorer errors exceed 10% of the combined scored and scorer-error records, or when any selected target fails. That 10% figure is an OMA policy default in the project documentation, not a guarantee for every installed version or a universal project policy. If an error caused the failure, fix the scorer or target and rerun before considering a policy change.

OMA can warn when a scorer omits its version. Without a version, the gate cannot distinguish a change in scoring logic from a change in target behavior. Version scorer logic, prompts, judge model, or judge configuration when they change; otherwise, baseline comparisons may be misleading or skipped. The CI guide discusses scorer versioning.
Baseline mismatch or regression
If the gate policy includes baseline rules, verify that the run received the intended baseline JSON report and that its EvalSet name and version match the current run. Name or version mismatches fail by default. If a scorer version changed, OMA warns and skips that scorer’s regression check because results from different scorer versions are not comparable; the other threshold and health checks still apply. If baseline rules are configured but no baseline is supplied, regression checks are skipped with a warning.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo establish a baseline, the project documentation recommends running the accepted target, reviewing its report.json, and copying that report to a controlled location. Commit the reviewed baseline alongside the versioned EvalSet and gate policy. OMA does not update baselines automatically; replace one only after explicitly reviewing and accepting the behavior change. See the baseline guidance.
Apply a gate without rerunning the target
If a report already exists and you only need to evaluate it against a policy, use oma eval gate. It consumes the report rather than executing the target again:
oma eval gate --report <report.json> --gate <gate.json>
To include a baseline, add --baseline <baseline.json>. This is useful when adjusting or validating a policy against an existing run. Confirm the installed CLI’s options in the CLI reference.

Rerun the evaluation when the target or data must change
Use oma eval run when you need fresh target results, changed evaluation data, or corrected scorer or target code. Include the EvalSet, target module, output formats, output directory, and gate policy as appropriate for your CLI release. For example, the documented pattern is:
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11oma eval run --eval-set <eval-set> --target <target-module> --gate <gate.json>
Consult the CLI reference for the exact options supported by your installed version. A target module must export an EvalTarget or an object containing a target and optional scorers. A separate scorers module must export a Scorer[], and scorer names must be unique. Target and scorer modules execute with the current process’s permissions, so load only code you trust. These module requirements are described in the evaluation-in-CI guide.
Keep useful artifacts when CI fails
Generate JSON so the report remains available for diagnosis, Markdown for reviewers, and JUnit if your CI system consumes test-report artifacts. The project’s GitHub Actions example uploads the JUnit file with an always() condition, preserving it even when the gate fails. This makes the failure inspectable instead of leaving only a red job status.
If evaluation cases contain sensitive data, account for the judge model as well as stored artifacts: the documentation says model-based judges send evaluated output to the configured judge model regardless of payload storage settings. Review the CI documentation before using such cases.
