To detect visible changes reliably, capture the relevant table on the bank’s official website on a consistent schedule, compare each capture with a reviewed screenshot baseline, then verify any visual alert against the live page. A screenshot difference is a reason to inspect—not proof that a rate changed.
Choose the official page and the exact rate information
Start with the bank’s own website, rather than a comparison site, and save the exact URL. The Reserve Bank of India’s customer-service guidance describes bank websites as a way for customers to access information, including quick-glance displays of interest rates and service charges (RBI customer-service guidance). This is context for using an official page; it does not require screenshot monitoring.

Decide which product category matters before setting up a capture. A bank may publish separate information for savings accounts, domestic term deposits, NRE/NRO deposits, or bulk deposits. Even within one table, rates may depend on deposit type, tenor, balance band, customer category, or other eligibility terms. Indian Bank’s deposit-rates page illustrates why the heading, effective date, and qualifications matter alongside the rate cells. The page is a live example, not a source for evergreen rate figures.

Focused capture
Capture the table and enough surrounding content to show its heading and effective-date or eligibility notes. A focused viewport can reduce irrelevant differences elsewhere on the page, but cropping too tightly can omit the context needed to interpret a changed cell.

Full-page capture
Use a full-page screenshot when footnotes or terms appear below the table. For a long page, separate named captures for the table and its notes can make review easier, provided both are retained together. Playwright documents viewport and full-page screenshots, as well as returning screenshot buffers for later processing or comparison (Playwright screenshot documentation).
Set up repeatable screenshots with Playwright
For an automated workflow, use a stable browser setup and a visual baseline. Playwright Test can compare screenshots with saved baselines. Its guidance cautions that rendering can vary with operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode, so captures intended for comparison should use a consistent environment (Playwright visual comparisons).

- Install the tools: In a new project directory, run
npm init -y, thennpm install --save-dev @playwright/testandnpx playwright install chromium. - Save the test below: Replace the example URL and locator with the bank’s official page and the table selector you inspected. Use a selector that identifies the intended table, not a broad page container.
- Review the first image: Run
npx playwright test. Inspect the generated reference screenshot and confirm it shows the correct product category, table heading, effective date, and relevant notes before treating it as your baseline. - Repeat on the same environment: Run the test again on your chosen cadence. Daily or weekly checks are possible choices, not RBI requirements; choose based on how quickly you need to notice a change.
Example tests/rate-page.spec.js:
const { test, expect } = require('@playwright/test');
test('official interest-rate table matches the reviewed baseline', async ({ page }) => {
await page.setViewportSize({ width: 1440, height: 1100 });
await page.goto('https://indianbank.bank.in/en/web/guest/deposit-rates', {
waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded',
timeout: 60000,
});
const table = page.locator('table').first();
await expect(table).toBeVisible({ timeout: 30000 });
await expect(table).toHaveScreenshot('deposit-rates-table.png', {
animations: 'disabled',
});
});
The example uses the first visible table only as a starting point; inspect the page and select the correct table if the bank page contains more than one. If important date or eligibility text sits outside it, capture that context too, or use a full-page image. Playwright’s snapshot comparison options and setup can evolve; consult the current visual-comparison documentation when adapting the test.
Compare, investigate, and update the baseline carefully
Keep capture records together
For each run, retain the image, page URL, capture timestamp, and a short product/category note. Put these in a filename or adjacent metadata so a screenshot can be traced to the page and point in time it represents. Keep the prior capture and any difference image or review note when a change is flagged.
Triage visual differences
A mismatch may come from a changed rate or date, but it can also reflect layout movement, a banner, rotating content, font rendering, or a different capture environment. Keep ignored regions or comparison tolerances narrow and documented: a broad exclusion can conceal a real change in the rate table.
Verify before promoting a new baseline
Open the live official page and read the changed text. Check the effective date, deposit category, balance or tenor band, customer category, and whether the terms distinguish fresh deposits from renewals. Only after confirming that the page is the intended official source and the new state is meaningful should you approve it as the next baseline. Do not automatically overwrite the baseline after every alert; retaining the previous state preserves an audit trail and helps identify transient page conditions.
Manual or automated monitoring?
| Approach | Setup and repeatability | Scheduling and dynamic content | Review |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual screenshots | Low setup effort; consistency depends on repeating the same browser, viewport, and capture steps. | Capture on a chosen schedule by hand; banners and changing page content can still create differences. | Easy to inspect each image, but comparisons and recordkeeping are manual. |
| Playwright visual comparison | Requires browser automation and a reviewed baseline; repeatable when the environment is held consistent. | Can be run on a schedule you arrange; selectors and waits help target content, but dynamic content still needs careful handling. | Flags visual differences for human inspection; the alert does not establish that a rate changed. |
Neither approach establishes that the bank has changed a rate until the displayed text and its terms are checked. Choose based on how often you want to capture and whether you can maintain a consistent automated environment.

Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo can capture a page through one GET request and return an image or PDF. Its clean-shot handling accepts cookie/consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; individual steps can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the page verdict and billing status included in response headers. It also offers an MCP server with screenshot and page-information tools for AI agents. See ScreenshotNeo and the API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://indianbank.bank.in/en/web/guest/deposit-rates -o shot.webp
Use your API key in place of YOUR_API_KEY. Save the returned image with the page URL, capture time, and product/category note, then compare it with a reviewed baseline; a screenshot service does not replace verification of changed rate text and qualifications.

Troubleshooting common capture problems
- The table is missing or the screenshot is blank: The page may not have finished rendering or may have failed to load. Confirm the URL in a normal browser, wait for the actual table selector rather than relying only on a fixed delay, and retain the failed capture record rather than approving it as a baseline.
- Every run looks different: Check that the operating system, browser version, viewport, browser settings, and headless mode are consistent. Look for rotating content or banners near the capture area before widening any ignored region.
- A change alert appears but the numbers look unchanged: Compare the table heading and surrounding date or eligibility text. A layout or rendering change can trigger a visual mismatch without changing the rate itself.
- The table changed but no useful alert appears: Confirm that the selected locator targets the relevant table and that comparison exclusions do not cover it. Capture the heading and notes separately if the table’s context moves or is outside the selected element.
- You cannot tell which page a screenshot came from: Add the exact URL, timestamp, and product/category to its filename or adjacent metadata, and retain the previous capture with review notes.
