Use a firearm. The red blobs in Valor Mortis are glowing environmental targets—also described as glowing red-orange nodes—that can block a route. Aim down sights at the blob and shoot it to reveal the path forward. Melee attacks are not the documented solution.
What the red blobs are
These glowing red or red-orange objects are progression targets placed near blocked routes, not ordinary enemies. The Xbox guide identifies them as “glowing red-orange nodes” that reveal blocked paths. A GamingBolt review likewise says the guns are mostly used to hit glowing blobs that sometimes stop you from moving forward.

No published source establishes a special firearm, damage requirement, hit-point total, or numerical rule for when the blobs appear. You therefore do not need to search for a named weapon or calculate a damage threshold: the documented interaction is to shoot the visible target.

- Equip a firearm. Switch from your melee weapon to any available gun.
- Find the obstruction. Look around the blocked doorway, corridor, or route for a bright red or red-orange glowing target.
- Aim down sights. Center the sight on the glowing node rather than firing generally into the surrounding obstruction. The official guide specifically recommends aiming at glowing weak points.
- Fire at the blob. Shoot the glowing target. Once it is destroyed, the blocked route should be revealed or cleared so you can continue.
- Advance through the newly opened route. If the way remains blocked, check whether you are looking at a different environmental obstruction rather than a red blob.
Red blobs versus fleshy webs
Valor Mortis uses more than one type of environmental barrier. The visual difference determines the tool you need.

If bullets produce no progress against a wall of organic webbing, stop spending ammunition and use Fire Transmutation instead. Conversely, fire is not the documented replacement for shooting a glowing node.
Manage ammunition while clearing nodes
The Xbox guide warns that ammunition is scarce and advises making every shot count. Guns also serve a combat role against enemy weak points, so do not empty a magazine into the scenery. Wait until the glowing target is clearly visible, aim carefully, and fire only at the node. If you miss, reacquire the glow before taking another shot rather than spraying the area.

The same guide discusses glowing weak points on enemies, including pustules or “lambent blisters.” Those combat targets are separate from the environmental red-orange nodes that reveal blocked paths. Treat the color and location as clues, but confirm that the object is positioned as part of an obstruction before using a scarce round.

Why shooting may seem not to work
You are using melee attacks
Red blobs are documented firearm targets. Switch to a gun and aim at the glowing center; a melee weapon is not the established method.

You are aiming at the barrier instead of the node
The useful hit point is the glowing object. Adjust your position until the red or red-orange node is visible, then aim down sights directly at it.
The obstruction is a fleshy web
Use Fire Transmutation on webbing. The firearm instruction applies to glowing blobs or nodes, not every organic-looking barrier.

You are conserving shots too aggressively
Ammunition is limited, but the node is a required progression target when it blocks your route. Take a deliberate, aimed shot rather than trying to pass through it or wasting rounds on nearby surfaces.
What is and is not confirmed
- Confirmed: glowing blobs or red-orange nodes can block forward progress.
- Confirmed: shooting them with a firearm is the documented way to reveal the path.
- Confirmed: aiming at the glowing point is recommended because ammunition is scarce.
- Confirmed: fleshy webs are cleared with Fire Transmutation instead.
- Not established in the available coverage: a specific gun requirement, damage value, hit-point total, or fixed spawn rule.
