Choose merchandise your audience would want
Start with the people who watch your stream and the identity they recognize: a channel name, an original illustration, or a recurring phrase or theme you have the right to use. Choose an item that makes sense for that audience and that you can realistically manage. Apparel is one option, not a universal best choice.

Before committing, check whether the design will be legible on the product at its actual size, whether the item suits your viewers, and how stock, orders, shipping, and returns will be handled. Compare providers using their current costs, fees, shipping coverage, taxes, and payment terms; the available official guidance does not establish typical margins or conversion rates.

Make a design you can legally sell
Use original artwork or obtain permission or a license that covers the intended commercial use before listing third-party material. The U.S. Copyright Office explains that original visual works receive copyright protection once fixed in a tangible form, and identifies artwork for wearing apparel as a visual-arts category. Copyright can cover rights to make, sell, distribute, adapt, and publicly display copies. These are U.S. explanations, not legal advice for every country.

Changing a small detail in someone else’s artwork does not automatically make it safe to sell. Copyright is also distinct from other possible protections, including trademark. If your design uses names, logos, characters, or other recognizable branding, check the relevant rights before offering it.
Choose a store and fulfillment workflow
Decide who will produce, store, ship, and support the product before you announce it. A connected retailer or commerce platform may handle merchandising, warehousing, fulfillment, refunds, customer service, inventory management, and creator payment. YouTube says these responsibilities belong to the retailer or platform for connected-store merchandise; shipping coverage and availability depend on that provider and its countries of sale.

- Confirm that the provider supports your country and the places where your audience can buy.
- Review its current production or base costs, shipping, fees, taxes, payment terms, and returns process.
- Check that the store can connect to the sales surfaces you plan to use, including YouTube Shopping if applicable.

Check YouTube Shopping eligibility and connect your store
YouTube Shopping can let eligible creators connect their own store and tag products in videos, Shorts, and live streams. Eligibility, supported retailers or platforms, channel status, and countries of sale matter, so check the current requirements for your channel and store in YouTube Shopping eligibility and availability. This overview cannot determine whether a particular channel qualifies.

If your channel and retailer are eligible, follow YouTube’s current connection instructions for that retailer. Once connected, YouTube may show a channel store, products in descriptions or product shelves, and product tags in live streams. Sales payments for merchandise go through the retailer or platform, not YouTube or AdSense.
Select and arrange products for the live stream
In YouTube Studio, use the stream’s shopping or product controls to choose what viewers will see. YouTube’s product management guidance says creators can tag and rearrange up to 30 items for an individual live stream. Curate the list around the stream rather than adding every available product, and put the most relevant items where viewers can find them easily.
Before promoting a product, check its appearance in the actual stream and on the surfaces your viewers use. Product display may be unavailable because of channel or content settings, a copyright claim or certain monetization restrictions, viewer location, or an unsupported device or surface. YouTube notes that merchandise features may not be available on content marked Made for Kids. Availability for one creator or viewer does not guarantee availability for another.

Make the buying route clear while you are live
Tell viewers what the item is and where to find it. If product tagging is available, point them to the stream’s product controls. You can also provide an appropriate store link in the description or another permitted surface, and explain any known limits such as shipping coverage or availability. Make clear that the connected retailer or platform handles the purchase, fulfillment, and customer support.
Be accurate about product qualities such as fit, durability, or materials. Do not make claims you cannot support, and do not imply that YouTube itself sells or ships the merchandise.

Promote recommendations and partnerships honestly
If you recommend another company’s merchandise and earn commission or have another material relationship, disclose it clearly and close to the recommendation or link. U.S. Federal Trade Commission guidance says endorsements should be truthful and not misleading, and endorsers should not claim experience they do not have. Its staff guidance advises that affiliate relationships be disclosed clearly and conspicuously near the recommendation or link. These references are U.S.-focused; creators should check the rules that apply where they operate and where their audience is located.
The FTC’s Advertisement Endorsements guidance explains that a connection between an endorser and marketer that could affect how people evaluate an endorsement should be disclosed. A simple, nearby explanation is more useful to viewers than a disclosure hidden elsewhere.
