Put the affected place, the passenger impact, and when it applies at the top of every mobile construction update. Then make it easy to find the project by location and status, show when the information was last updated, and link to the airport’s current source for details. The goal is a quick, dependable answer on a phone—not a miniature project report.
Start with the passenger’s immediate question
A traveler opening a construction notice needs to know: Where is the work? What changes for me? When does the change apply? Put those answers before background, project history, or technical detail.

Use a short title that names the location or project and its practical impact. Follow it with a plain-language summary, an effective date and time window, and a current status. If a schedule is tentative, say so next to the timing. Give a suggested next step—such as using another entrance—only when the airport has confirmed it.
- Title: name the affected place and, where useful, the closure or detour.
- What changes: state the passenger-facing effect in direct language.
- When: include dates and times, and label tentative timing clearly.
- Status: distinguish planned work from work underway and completed work.
- Updated: show the date and time the notice was last checked or changed.
Atlanta’s airport described a “Happening Now” view emphasizing immediate impacts and organizing information by terminal area and date. That is a useful design pattern, not evidence that one layout works best in every airport. ATL’s redesign description

Make location the main way to browse
Construction is tied to physical places: terminals, curbs, roadways, parking areas, and airfield zones. Let visitors start with the place they recognize, rather than requiring them to know a project name or construction phase.
Offer location and status together
Group projects by useful landmarks or areas, then show whether each is planned, current, or complete. ATL’s described design used North and South Terminal groupings alongside an interactive impact map. Orlando International Airport (MCO) groups projects as completed, current, and future. ATL’s redesign description · MCO’s project information
Use familiar public-facing labels such as “Airport Construction Updates,” “construction impacts,” “closure,” and “detour routes” when they accurately describe the notice. Keep internal project codes and contractor terminology secondary.

A map can help visitors orient themselves, but the essential information should also appear as readable text. Pair a map marker or affected-area label with a link to the relevant project update. Do not make a visitor infer whether their entrance, curb, or route is affected from a diagram alone.

Use a repeatable mobile update structure
A compact project card or page can answer the urgent question first and still provide a route to fuller detail. Keep the sequence predictable across projects:
- Place and impact: identify the area and what changes.
- Timing and status: give the effective window and whether the project is planned, underway, or complete.
- Passenger action: provide a verified alternative or instruction, if one applies.
- Map and project detail: link to the relevant map, current notice, and fuller project information.
- Update timestamp: state when the page was last updated.
- Optional follow-up: offer email or app alerts for people who want continuing notices.
Keep the key facts on the page itself. A map, downloadable document, app, or subscription can add detail, but should not be the only place a visitor can learn whether a closure affects them.
Keep one current web destination and add other entry points
Use a maintained airport web page as the stable destination for construction information. QR codes, app alerts, email, and social posts can bring people to it, but should point back to the current notice rather than become competing versions of the facts.

Connect signs and airport spaces to mobile updates
MCO tells visitors to look for labeled QR codes in the airport to access project updates on handheld devices, and also offers a community newsletter. A QR code works best when its sign names the location or project and its destination is a useful mobile page. MCO’s project information

Make app and email alerts optional distribution
DFW promotes its mobile app for travel information, construction updates, and alerts, including opt-in push notifications and customized settings; it also directs customers to construction email updates. Treat these as ways to reach people who choose them, not as a replacement for a page anyone can open without subscribing. DFW construction information
Make changing schedules explicit
Construction dates and project lists can change. Anchorage’s airport construction page describes its 2026 summer season while warning that listed work is subject to change and may not be comprehensive. Put an equivalent caveat where it applies, keep the update timestamp visible, and direct visitors to the airport’s current notice. Anchorage Airport Construction Updates
The official examples do not establish a universal update cadence. Set an internal process for checking notices and promptly revising the public page when confirmed plans change.
Make essential information accessible on a phone
Use readable HTML for the location, impact, dates, status, and instructions. Give links and map controls clear labels, and ensure the page’s essential facts remain available to people using assistive technology. Do not make a PDF the only path to closure details.

Sault Ste. Marie Airport’s Accessibility Plan and Feedback Process 2024–2027 identifies work to ensure its website functions on mobile devices with speech capabilities such as VoiceOver or TalkBack, and to review inaccessible PDFs. These are practical concerns to account for; the plan is not a substitute for checking applicable current accessibility standards or conducting a conformance audit. Sault Ste. Marie Airport accessibility plan
- Keep the primary update in page text instead of embedding it only in an image or document.
- Use descriptive text for links so visitors can tell where each one goes.
- Pair maps and icons with text labels that identify the affected area and action.
- Check the page on a small screen and with mobile assistive technology.
Separate passenger guidance from aviation safety notices
Passenger updates explain public-facing impacts in ordinary language. They do not replace operational notices for pilots, airport authorities, or air traffic managers. The Federal Aviation Administration says, “Runway construction projects present hazards to aircraft and air traffic control operations.” Its construction resources include operational best practices, safety checklists, diagrams, and sample communications. Link to the appropriate official material when needed, but do not present a passenger page as a substitute for aeronautical notices. FAA: Runway and Taxiway Construction · FAA: Runway and Taxiway Construction Resources
Review the update before publishing
- Can a visitor identify the affected place, impact, and timing without scrolling through project background?
- Can they browse by a familiar terminal, roadway, curb, parking area, or other landmark?
- Is the status plainly marked as planned, current, or completed?
- Are any recommended alternatives confirmed by the airport?
- Is the last-updated time visible, and does the page point to the current official source?
- Can the essential information be read without relying on a map, app, QR code, or PDF alone?
- Are subscriptions optional, and are operational safety notices kept distinct from passenger guidance?
Airport examples demonstrate maps, lifecycle groupings, QR entry, and opt-in alerts, but do not provide controlled evidence that one approach outperforms another. Review designs against the practical criteria that matter: speed to find a location, clarity of status and timing, accessibility of the core page, and reach across web and optional channels.
