Request and save any trip data, receipts, or account documents you may need before deleting a robotaxi account. These are separate actions: a data request does not close an account, and deleting an account can make trip records or support help unavailable. The steps below cover Waymo, Lyft, and Tesla; options and rights can vary by location and service.
Before you delete an account
- Request or download data first. Lyft says a data download, including ride history, is unavailable after account deletion. Waymo says support loses access to previous-trip information after deletion, and Tesla advises saving documents, statements, and receipts first.
- Save records you may need. Keep receipts, trip details, and any dispute or lost-item correspondence outside the account.
- Check the operator’s current privacy notice and menu labels. App interfaces, available requests, and legal rights depend on service and location.
Deleting an account does not necessarily erase every record. Operators describe possible retention for legal, financial, safety, fraud-prevention, dispute, or legitimate business reasons. These instructions are practical service guidance, not legal advice.

Waymo: request data or delete the account
Request a copy of Waymo data
Waymo Help states: “All riders have the ability to delete personal information associated with their Waymo account or download a copy of it.” Use Waymo’s data request form to request a download or deletion. Provide your contact name, the email address connected with the account, and the request type. Use the account email so the request can be associated with the right profile. Waymo’s privacy policy describes access, deletion, correction, and portability rights, subject to limits such as protecting another person’s information or retaining data for legal or compelling legitimate reasons.

Waymo does not allow account deletion while a trip is active or charges are pending. Complete the trip and resolve pending charges before starting.

- Open the Waymo app and go to Account.
- Tap Edit account.
- Tap the trash icon, then select Delete forever.
Deletion is permanent. You will need to create another account to use Waymo again, and reactivation may not be immediate. Waymo says it deletes the rider’s name, email, and trip history, but may retain some information when required by law or for legitimate business purposes. After deletion, support loses access to prior trip information needed to help with matters such as refunds, receipts, or lost items. In Metro Phoenix, a parent must unlink associated teen accounts first; deleting the parent account also deletes associated teen accounts.
Lyft: download data before deleting
Download Lyft account data
Sign in to Lyft’s privacy data page and select Start in the download-data section. Lyft sends a ZIP file that includes a DataDictionary explaining the files. The package can contain ride history and specified personal information, and Lyft says delivery may take a few days. Lyft explicitly says account data is not available after the account is deleted.

Delete a Lyft account
- In the Lyft app, tap Privacy, then Account Security.
- Confirm the account deletion request and choose a reason.
- Type DELETE, then tap Delete account.
The request applies to linked rider and driver accounts; Lyft says partial account or data deletion is not available. A completed deletion cannot be undone. Lyft aims to respond within 30 days, but says it may be unable to delete accounts connected with trust, safety, or fraud concerns. Its Help page describes service availability in the U.S. and Canada and says Lyft account and ride information are not covered by GDPR; check current regional terms rather than treating that statement as a universal rule.

Tesla’s account-data request and its Robotaxi privacy notice describe related but not identical information. Tesla’s Robotaxi notice says the app processes ride location and trip details linked to the rider’s account. It also describes some vehicle data as processed locally, encrypted, anonymous, or available only when a defined event or legal basis applies. Do not assume an account export includes every Robotaxi vehicle or camera record.

Request a copy of Tesla account data
- Sign in to Tesla’s account data request form.
- Choose Data Privacy Request, then Obtain a Copy of My Data.
- Submit the requested time range and complete identity verification if prompted.
Availability varies by location. Tesla says it emails when the data is ready; a request can take up to 30 days, or the shorter response period prescribed in your location. The copy may include account details, customer support activity, vehicle or service information, and other account-associated categories. Tesla says downloading the copy does not delete data from its servers.
Delete a Tesla Account
Remove active Tesla products from the account before requesting deletion. Save documents, statements, and receipts first: deletion removes access to account services and those records.

- Website: Sign in, then select Data & Privacy > Delete Account.
- App: Open the menu, tap the account name, then Security & Privacy > Delete Account, and follow the prompts.
Tesla says it must retain past transaction information for financial reporting and may need to retain information for legal proceedings, while minimizing or anonymizing retained data. For Robotaxi privacy requests, Tesla’s notice lists an online request route, [email protected], and postal mail.

What deletion does—and does not—mean
Account closure, access to a data copy, and erasure of all operator-held records are distinct outcomes. The practical effect also differs by service:

Retention exceptions and request timing are operator- and location-specific. Lyft’s 30-day response period is an aim for deletion requests, while Tesla’s up-to-30-day period applies to a data-copy request or a shorter local deadline. Neither should be read as a universal legal deadline or promise that all information will be erased.
If you want fewer location records, not account closure
Review your phone’s location permissions and the operator’s privacy controls if your goal is to limit future location access while keeping the account. Changing permissions does not itself delete historical trip data; use the service’s data request or deletion route for that separate purpose.
