To delete all your Google Photos, select the library by month in the mobile app and move those items to Trash, or delete selected items at photos.google.com. Before you start, confirm you’re using the right Google Account and decide whether copies should remain on your devices: with Backup on, deleting from Google Photos can also remove synced device copies. Emptying Trash makes deletion permanent.
Before deleting: check your account, backup, and device copies
Google Photos can show local photos on your phone even when they are not backed up to the account you’re viewing. Check the active account and its backup status before selecting anything; Google recommends reviewing the library under each account when checking where backed-up items are stored. Deleting items through Google Photos can also remove them from Android devices, iPhones, and iPads where the app is installed and Backup is on. The items may disappear from albums, shared albums or conversations, and some highlight videos. Google says this does not automatically delete copies in Blogger, Drive, Gmail, or YouTube. On devices where the local photos should remain, turn off Backup before deleting the backed-up items at photos.google.com, and leave Backup off so the items are not uploaded again. On Android, Google also provides an Undo backup option that removes backed-up items from Google Photos while retaining device copies; using it turns Backup off on that device. Follow Google’s deletion guidance and Android guidance.

How to delete all Google Photos in the mobile app
The documented bulk workflow selects photos and videos one month at a time. It is useful when you want to include the whole library without relying on a desktop select-all control.
- Open Google Photos on your mobile device and confirm the active Google Account.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then choose Month under Layout.
- Return to the photo grid. Tap the checkmark beside a month to select its items, then scroll through the library and repeat for every month you want to delete.
- Tap Trash, then Move to trash.
- To make the deletion permanent, open Collections > Trash, tap Select, choose Delete all, and confirm with Delete permanently.
The month-by-month steps are described in a Google Photos Team community guide. Review your selection before moving it to Trash; the permanent-delete step cannot be undone.

How to delete selected Google Photos on a computer
- Go to photos.google.com and sign in to the intended Google Account.
- Select the items you want to remove.
- Choose Move to trash.
- When you are ready to delete permanently, open Trash and choose Empty trash, or select individual items and choose Delete permanently.
Google’s computer instructions explain how to select and delete items but do not document a single control for selecting the entire library. If selecting everything is unwieldy, delete in manageable groups or use the mobile month-by-month method. Computer deletion instructions

Google explains Archive, Free up space on a device, and Photos storage management separately because they address different goals. Deleting photos may not free storage if those items were not counting toward your quota. For example, Google says Storage saver or Express quality items backed up before June 1, 2021 do not count, while Original quality uploads continue to count. Check the storage tool before deleting for quota reasons.

Trash, permanent deletion, and recovery
Google’s published guidance gives conflicting Trash retention periods. Its computer deletion and restore pages say deleted items stay in Trash for 30 days, while a Google Photos Team community guide published August 28, 2025 says backed-up items remain for 60 days and items that were not backed up remain for 30 days. The sources do not establish why the periods differ. Check the countdown shown in your account’s Trash and restore anything you need before emptying it. After an item is permanently deleted, Google says it cannot be restored; its Android guidance also says Google Takeout cannot recover permanently deleted content. Export important photos before deleting them if you want an independent copy. Google Photos Help, Android deletion guidance
