To delete saved location history, first identify where it is stored: Google Maps Timeline, Apple Significant Locations & Routes, and Apple Maps Visited Places are separate records with separate controls. Deleting one does not erase every location-related record from your phone or account.
Choose the location history you want to remove

Delete Google Maps Timeline on Android
These steps apply to Google Maps version 11.106 and later. Timeline is not available on Android Go devices. If the options are missing, update Google Maps and check the current menu labels. Google Maps Help: manage Timeline on Android.
- Open Google Maps and tap your profile picture or initial.
- Tap Your Timeline.
- Tap More, then Location & privacy settings.
- Under Location settings, choose Delete all Timeline data to clear it all, or Delete range of Timeline data to choose a period.
- Follow the prompts and confirm the deletion.
Delete one day or visit instead
- For a day, open that day in Timeline, tap More, choose Delete day, and confirm.
- For one visit, open the visit’s More menu and choose Remove.
Set automatic deletion
In Timeline’s Location & privacy settings, choose Auto-delete Timeline and select one of the listed retention periods: 3, 18, or 36 months. These are Google’s available age thresholds for Android Timeline, not guarantees that every other location-related record will also be deleted.

Delete Google Maps Timeline on iPhone
Google Maps Timeline on iPhone requires Google Maps 6.93 or later. Google Account Help: manage Timeline on iPhone.
- Open Google Maps and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Your Timeline, then More.
- Open Settings or Location & privacy settings—the label depends on the app’s presentation.
- Choose Delete all Timeline data or Delete Timeline Range, then follow the prompts to confirm.
To remove one day, select it in the Timeline view and use its deletion option. Google’s iPhone instructions describe the control within the Timeline; follow the equivalent option shown in your app.

Clear Apple Significant Locations & Routes
On iPhone, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → System Services → Significant Locations & Routes → Clear History. Menu wording may vary by software version. Apple says this clears Significant Locations on devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Apple also says this data is end-to-end encrypted and can’t be read by Apple. Clear Apple Maps Visited Places
- Open Apple Maps and tap Places, then Visited Places.
- To remove one entry, open the More menu beside the place and remove it.
- To clear the list, scroll down and tap Clear History.
Apple Maps also has a Keep Visits setting with choices of 3 months, 1 year, or Forever. Apple says Visited Places is unavailable in some countries or regions. Apple iPhone User Guide: visit places in Maps.

What deleting a history does—and does not—remove
Each control applies to its own history store. Google says deleted Timeline data can’t be recovered, and its help pages warn that data or backups may remain on another device. Timeline changes on one device may not appear on another, so check the devices and backups you use before treating the history as cleared.
Other Google services can also retain location-related information. Web & App Activity or Search activity may include location information; Timeline settings do not control Google Location Services, Location Sharing, or Find Hub.
