You can refresh your iPhone Home Screen without moving apps or replacing its familiar layout. Use the built-in controls to adjust icon style, wallpaper, or add a useful widget while keeping the app grid and small, labeled icons intact.
Change the look of your icons without rearranging apps

On the Home Screen, touch and hold an empty area until the app icons jiggle.

Choose an icon appearance and leave the existing apps in place. Options documented by Apple include light, dark, clear, and tinted treatments. A tint can be adjusted, or sampled from the wallpaper using the eyedropper. See Apple’s icon appearance instructions.

Keep icons small if you want app names to remain visible. Large icons omit the names, which can make familiar apps less immediately identifiable.
For the least disruptive change, start with light or dark. Clear and tinted treatments make the icons more visually prominent. If you choose a tint, check that the icons remain easy to distinguish against the wallpaper.

Change only the Home Screen wallpaper
You can update the background without changing the app arrangement. Open Settings, tap Wallpaper, then add or select a wallpaper and choose Customize Home Screen. Apple’s wallpaper instructions describe using a color, a custom photo, or blur for the Home Screen background.

Add a widget only if it earns its space

Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons jiggle.

Tap Edit, then Add Widget.

Select an app’s widget and size, tap to add it, then position it on the Home Screen. Apple’s widget instructions cover adding and editing widgets.

Widgets can show app information or provide some quick tasks without opening the app. Their available sizes depend on the app: some offer only small and medium options, while others provide larger ones. A widget uses Home Screen area, so add one when its at-a-glance information or shortcut is more useful to you than the open space.
