You can customize Streamlabs Alert Box messages and presentation in the Streamlabs dashboard: choose the connected platform, open the alert event you want to change, edit its supported text and visual settings, then preview and test it in your streaming setup. Twitch and YouTube do not offer identical alert events or variation conditions, so configure each platform’s alerts separately rather than assuming one set of options applies to both.
Add an Alert Box to your stream
In Streamlabs Desktop, add an Alert Box from Sources. If you use different streaming software, the route may instead involve Streamlabs’ integration or adding an Alert Box as a browser source; the exact setup depends on the software you use.

Adding the widget makes alerts available to your stream, but it does not mean every event is configured or visible. Choose the platform and event you intend to customize before editing.

In the Streamlabs dashboard, select the relevant connected platform and then the alert category or event. The available categories depend on the platform you have connected or selected. For example, Streamlabs’ YouTube guidance covers subscribers, members, and Super Chats. Do not assume that every Twitch event exists on YouTube, or that every YouTube event exists on Twitch.

If you stream with merged platforms, decide whether you want a shared setup or platform-specific alerts. Check the event list shown for each platform: availability and the conditions that can trigger a variation differ.
Edit an individual alert’s message and presentation
Open the event you want to change and edit the options available for that event. Depending on the alert type, Streamlabs’ guides describe controls for the alert text and layout, image or GIF, sound, font, animation, and duration. Text-to-speech (TTS) is available for supported event types. Not every control applies to every event.
- Set the message and layout. Adjust the alert’s text or layout using the options shown for the selected event. Keep the message readable at the size and position where it appears in your scene.
- Choose its image and sound. Select an image or GIF and sound where those options are offered. Check that the visual and audio make sense for the event and do not obscure important stream content.
- Set typography, animation, and duration. Adjust the font, animation, and display duration if those controls are available. Preview the result rather than judging it only from the settings panel.
- Configure TTS only where supported. If the event offers text-to-speech, set it deliberately and test how the spoken message sounds alongside your other stream audio.
Make changes to one event at a time when you want different events to have distinct messages or presentation. Use the preview while editing to see the effect before you test it in the live scene.

Choose how broadly settings apply
Use an individual event’s settings when you want that alert to look or sound different. General settings apply more broadly and can include alert delay, moderation approvals, profanity filtering, and custom blocked words. The specific options depend on the setup.
For shared design choices, Streamlabs’ Global Editing can apply settings such as font, TTS, animations, layout, or duration across alerts and variations. The Streamlabs cross-platform guide says Global Editing allows users to update all alerts and variations with the same settings. Individual settings can still be adjusted, so review event-specific choices after applying shared ones.
Use variations for conditional alerts
A variation is an alternate alert that appears when an event meets a condition. It is useful when, for example, you want a different presentation for a qualifying event rather than changing the default alert for every occurrence. The conditions are platform- and event-specific; use only conditions that the selected event actually offers.

- Open the relevant event and add a variation.
- Choose a condition offered for that platform and event.
- Customize the variation’s supported message and presentation settings.
- Preview it, then save and test it in the destination setup.
Streamlabs’ variation guidance documents conditions for Twitch subscriptions and bits, raid size, YouTube membership conditions, and Super Chat amounts. Those examples are not interchangeable across platforms; rely on the options shown for the specific event in your dashboard.
Set up and moderate TTS for tips and bits
For tips and bits, Streamlabs documents controls to choose a minimum amount and voice, set a spam filter, and use profanity controls or custom blocked words. Its TTS guide says TTS is off by default. Configure these controls before enabling spoken messages, especially if viewers can submit text that will be read aloud.
- Choose a minimum amount that fits your moderation approach.
- Select the voice and test it at a representative volume.
- Set the spam filter and profanity controls, adding blocked words if needed.
- Test with representative alerts before relying on the configuration live.
Test alerts in the scene where they will run
Testing in the actual destination setup can reveal problems that a dashboard preview alone may not show, such as an alert being covered by another source or its audio being too loud.

If settings look wrong, check the active theme
Streamlabs offers pre-made widget themes as an alternative starting point to building a design yourself. Its theme guidance says themes can be switched, and switching changes alert and widget settings. If settings unexpectedly change or do not match what you expect, check which theme is active before redoing the alert configuration.
