Customize a Mythic skin from that item’s own preview: unlock the available tiers, then choose among the components, colors, and effects it offers. Saving a combination as a reusable named favorite is a separate feature, and Blizzard’s official explanations do not confirm that the game supports it. Check the selected item in the current client before relying on a preset or save workflow.
How Mythic customization works
Mythic options are specific to each skin or weapon. Open the item’s preview and inspect its tier-by-tier unlocks; do not assume every Mythic has the same number of tiers or the same kinds of choices.

Blizzard described a revised approach beginning in Season 19: Tier 1 unlocks the complete Mythic skin design, while later tiers add refinements such as alternate components, colorways, and ambient visual-effect toggles. That description applies to the revised style system, not automatically to every older Mythic. The selected item’s preview is the useful guide to its actual options. Blizzard’s Season 19 announcement describes the change.

The available choices vary by item. Blizzard’s Season 22 examples illustrate the range without making those features universal:

| Mythic item | Tier examples described by Blizzard |
|---|---|
| Volted Overdrive Soldier: 76 skin | Level 1: ability VFX toggle. Level 2: additional hairstyles. Level 3: red/black and white/blue colorways. Level 4: ambient VFX toggle. |
| Genji’s Sumi-ichimonji weapon | Level 1: weapon design. Level 2: reactive visuals. Level 3: two flourish animations. Level 4: kill VFX. |
These are options for the named Season 22 items, not a template for other Mythics. Blizzard’s Season 22 announcement lists those examples. Another case is Cyber Fuel Junkrat: Blizzard said it begins in its full Mythic form and can be refined with colorways, tire choices, and an ambient glow. The Season 19 midcycle announcement describes that skin’s choices.
How to choose a variant in the game
Use the selected Mythic’s own preview to see which options are available and which tiers unlock them. Once unlocked, select the combination you want using the controls shown in that preview. The official announcements establish the tier-and-option system, but do not provide a dependable, current menu path or button-by-button procedure for applying every item’s choices. Menu labels and controls should therefore be taken from the live client rather than guessed.

Can you save a favorite variant as a preset?
Blizzard’s published explanations reviewed here describe unlocking and customizing Mythics, but do not establish whether the current client lets you name a combination, save it as a reusable preset, or quickly reapply it later. Choosing or equipping options is not proof that a named preset feature exists. Check the selected item’s current interface for an explicit save or preset control; without one, do not treat the current combination as a named, reusable favorite.

Check the current unlock requirements
Mythic Shop and Mythic Prism rules have changed across seasons, so historical prices should not be treated as current universal requirements. In its April 2024 explainer, Blizzard described a model of 50 Mythic Prisms for a base Mythic unlock and 10 for each of three additional levels—80 total for all then-available levels. That is historical pricing, not a current quote. Blizzard’s 2024 Mythic Shop explainer gives the dated figures.

Check the selected item and current in-game shop for the applicable availability and cost. The Season 17 announcement is the source for that seasonal reward figure.
