To make different iPhone Home Screen layouts for different activities, create separate pages of apps and widgets, then link each page to a Focus. When that Focus is active, iPhone can show its selected page. If you mean changing how a page looks, use the built-in icon, widget, and wallpaper controls instead.
Choose the right kind of customization

A Focus-selected page is a layout choice, not a separate phone profile: it does not create another app installation, set of app data, or user account.

Create separate pages for different activities
Arrange apps and widgets on each page
- Decide what belongs on each page—for example, work tools on one page and personal apps on another.
- On the Home Screen, touch and hold an empty area until the icons jiggle.
- Drag apps or widgets to the page where you want them. To reach a page that is not visible, drag the item to the edge of the screen and pause until the next page appears.
- Tap the background or press the Home button, if your iPhone has one, to finish.

Link a page to a Focus
- Open Settings > Focus.
- Select a Focus, such as Work or Personal, or create a custom Focus.
- In that Focus’s settings, choose the customized Home Screen page to display while the Focus is on.
- If you want automatic switching, set a Focus schedule. Apple says a Focus can be scheduled by time, location, or app in its Focus setup guide.
- Turn on the Focus and check that the intended page appears.
Apple describes the setting this way: “Choose a customized Lock Screen or Home Screen page to switch to while the Focus is on to help limit distractions.”

Change icon, widget, and wallpaper appearance
Customize icons
- Touch and hold the Home Screen background until icons jiggle.
- Tap Edit, then Customize.
- Choose an available appearance: light, dark, clear, tinted, or an automatic option. The exact choices may vary with the iOS version.

Add a widget
- Touch and hold the Home Screen background.
- Tap Edit, then Add Widget.
- Choose a widget and add it to the page.
Widget sizes and available information depend on the app. Apple’s appearance guide covers widget customization.

Set a Home Screen wallpaper
- Open Settings > Wallpaper.
- Add or choose a wallpaper, then choose Customize Home Screen.
- Select a color or photo, or use the blur option if available.
Apple also documents Focus-linked wallpaper changes. How the wallpaper and Lock Screen are paired depends on the wallpaper and Lock Screen setup; see Apple’s wallpaper instructions.

Hide, reorder, or remove pages
- Touch and hold an empty area on the Home Screen until the icons jiggle.
- Tap the page dots at the bottom of the screen.
- Clear the circle below a page to hide it, or select and drag a page to change its order.
- To remove a page, use the page controls. Apps from a removed page remain in the App Library.
To choose where new apps appear, open Settings > Home Screen & App Library. Apple’s guide to organizing Home Screen pages describes hiding and managing pages; it covers features available in iOS 14 and later.

What to expect from iOS support
These instructions use Apple’s built-in iPhone controls and do not require an accessory. The appearance and Home Screen guides reviewed for this article use iOS 27 URLs; Apple’s Focus guide does not show a release number in its URL. Labels and availability can change in later iOS versions, so if a control is missing, check the current instructions in Apple’s iPhone User Guide.
