Check your Budgie version first
Budgie’s official homepage listed version 10.10.3, released September 27, 2026. Budgie 10.10 is the project’s Wayland release series, and its January 10, 2026 announcement described panels, applets, Raven, and familiar keyboard shortcuts as part of the experience. Customize a panel in Budgie Desktop Settings
Panel configuration is a Budgie-specific task, separate from general system settings. Open it either by right-clicking the panel and choosing Panel settings, or through Applications → Budgie Desktop Settings. Select the panel you want to modify before changing its options. Official Budgie FAQ
Change position, size, transparency, or visibility
With the intended panel selected, adjust its position (top, bottom, left, or right), size, transparency, and auto-hide behavior using the available controls. If a change seems to affect the wrong area—or does not appear to take effect—confirm that you selected the visible panel you meant to edit.

Add, remove, or reorder applets
In Budgie Desktop Settings, select the panel and use its applet controls to add or remove items. Use the up and down controls to change their order. Available applets depend on the installed build; examples in Budgie’s FAQ include:
- Icon Tasklist, Clock, and System Tray
- Workspace Switcher, Show Desktop, Spacer, and Separator
- Keyboard Layout Indicator, Places, and Applications Menu
This is a representative list, not a promise that every distribution packages every applet. If an item is absent, check the documentation or packaging for your distribution.

Configure keyboard shortcuts in Budgie Control Center
Shortcuts are configured in the system settings application, not Budgie Desktop Settings. Open Budgie Control Center → Keyboard → Shortcuts. The official FAQ describes this workflow for adding a custom shortcut: Budgie FAQ: keyboard shortcuts

- Click the control for adding a shortcut.
- Enter the command you want the shortcut to run.
- Press the key combination you want to assign.
- Apply the change.
Choose a combination that does not conflict with an existing shortcut. The FAQ groups shortcuts into system actions, window management, workspace navigation, application launching, and custom shortcuts. It gives examples such as Super + A or Super + N for Raven depending on configuration, Super + Space for the application menu, Super + arrow keys for tiling, Ctrl + Alt + Delete for the lock screen, and Alt + Tab for switching windows. These examples are not guaranteed defaults for every distribution or user configuration.

What changes on Budgie 10.10’s Wayland setup?
Budgie 10.10 is the project’s Wayland release series. The project recommends a wlroots-based compositor and describes labwc integration through a bridge that mirrors settings from Budgie Control Center and Budgie Desktop Settings into labwc configuration. The bridge supports default shortcuts for actions including opening the Budgie Menu and Raven, launching the run dialog, switching workspaces, and taking screenshots. For ordinary panel and shortcut changes, start with the relevant settings application above. Compositor-level configuration is a separate layer, and its details depend on the installed version and distribution packaging.

Troubleshoot a missing option or ineffective change
- Wrong panel selected: Return to Budgie Desktop Settings and select the panel visible on screen that you intend to edit.
- Applet not listed: The applet may not be included in your distribution’s build; the FAQ’s examples are not universal.
- Shortcut does not behave as expected: Check the assigned combination for conflicts and verify whether your distribution or compositor applies additional shortcut configuration.
- Labels differ: Confirm your Budgie version and distribution; the documented paths describe Budgie 10.10 guidance, not every packaging variation.
