The steps below note where an option is model-specific; check the menus on your own tablet rather than assuming every Fire supports the same wallpaper or lock-screen choices.
Change your Fire tablet’s wallpaper or lock-screen image
Fire tablets do not all use the same wallpaper controls. Amazon’s available instructions describe particular devices, not one universal path. Start by checking whether your tablet has a Lock Screen or Wallpaper option in Settings, and follow the path that matches your model.

Fire HD 8: choose a lock-screen scene or photo
An Amazon staff answer for a Fire HD 8 describes this route: Settings > Lock Screen > Select a lock screen scene. Swipe through the available scenes to preview them. On the configuration described, tap Your Photo to select a personal photo, then tap the checkmark to apply it. Scenes rotate daily by default; the staff answer says to select Off next to Rotate Scene Daily to disable rotation. These instructions are specific to the described Fire HD 8 setup, so the same controls may not appear on another model or software version. Amazon forum answer for Fire HD 8.
Fire 7: use a photo saved on the tablet
In a December 2024 Amazon staff forum answer about a Fire 7, the workflow for a photo stored in Amazon Photos was to open Silk, visit photos.amazon.com, download the chosen image to the tablet, then open Settings > Display > Wallpaper and choose My Photos from the Gallery app. This is a model-specific example; menu names and photo handling can differ on other generations or software versions. Amazon forum answer for Fire 7.

If neither path matches your device, look for Wallpaper or Lock Screen in Settings. Do not assume a personal home-screen image can also be set as the lock screen, or that every model offers personal-photo selection.
Make text and interface items larger
Fire tablets have separate controls for system text, interface size, Kindle reading text and Silk web pages. Changing one does not automatically change the others.

System font and display size
- For system text, open Settings > Display > Font Size, then adjust the slider. This is Amazon’s documented route; exact labels can vary by device.
- On Fire tablets with Fire OS 8 or later, open Settings > Display > Display Size to make interface items larger or smaller. Display Size is not documented as a universal option on older Fire OS versions. Amazon notes that some apps may not display properly at larger settings.

Kindle books and Silk browser pages
- Kindle app: Open a book, tap the top of the screen to display the reading toolbar, tap Aa, and choose a text size. This changes the reading experience in the app, not the tablet’s system font.
- Silk browser: Open the Silk menu, then go to Settings > Accessibility > Text Scaling and adjust the page text. This is separate from both system font size and Kindle text size.

Keep the screen on longer or make it sleep sooner
Screen sleep controls how long the display stays on while the tablet is idle. It does not set or change a lock-screen PIN or password.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display or Display & Sounds, depending on the device.
- Tap Display Sleep or Sleep.
- Choose how many seconds or minutes the screen should remain on when not in use.
Amazon presents a shorter timeout as a way to preserve battery. Press the power button to wake the screen from sleep. See Amazon’s screen-timeout instructions.

Adjust accessibility and visual appearance
Open Settings > Accessibility and select the feature you need. Fire OS 5 and later has an accessibility settings overview, but individual features have their own requirements. Check your model, Fire OS version and device language before relying on a specific option.

- High Contrast Text: Changes most on-screen text to black or white with a border in the opposite color.
- Color Correction: Provides settings for deuteranomaly, protanomaly and tritanomaly.
- Color Inversion: Reverses screen colors.
- VoiceView: Amazon’s screen reader for Fire OS. It is distinct from Android TalkBack, not simply another name for it.
Amazon cautions that color correction or color inversion may need to be turned off temporarily to watch some videos. Display Size is documented for Fire tablets with Fire OS 8. Voice Access is documented only for Fire HD 10 (13th Generation) when the device language is English; do not assume it is available on other models or languages. Feature support can vary. Set child-profile and adult-profile lock controls
Lock-screen options for a child profile and parental controls for an adult profile do different jobs.
Child profile
Amazon’s child-profile help describes profile management controls that can include Other Settings > Lock Screen > Display profile on lock screen. It also describes enabling a lock-screen password for the child profile and setting a PIN or password for that profile. The precise options depend on the device and profile setup. Adult profile
Parental controls can restrict access to the current adult profile, including Settings. Amazon explicitly distinguishes the parental-controls password from the lock-screen password: they are not interchangeable. See Amazon’s parental-controls instructions.
