In Make, first use OpenGraph.io’s Site Lookup to retrieve a URL’s existing Open Graph information; then either pass its existing image URL onward, render a designed card from the mapped metadata with HTML/CSS to Image, or use Make’s separate URL-screenshot action to capture the webpage itself. These are different outputs: a metadata lookup does not design an image, and a screenshot is not a custom card.
Choose the output you actually need
| Approach | What it produces | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| OpenGraph.io Site Lookup | Open Graph information from a website; the integration listing describes extracting previews, images, and descriptions. | You need the page’s existing metadata and possibly its existing image URL. The exact fields depend on the service response and target page. |
| HTML/CSS to Image | An image rendered from HTML/CSS in PNG, JPG, or WebP. | You want a repeatable, custom-designed card populated with metadata from the URL. |
| Screenshot of a URL | A capture of the webpage itself. | The desired image is the source page as it appears, rather than a designed card. |
Make lists these as separate capabilities. Choose based on whether the destination needs an existing page image, a controlled graphic, or a view of the page. Check that the destination accepts the resulting file or image URL; requirements vary by app.

Build the Make scenario
1. Start with a URL source
Create a scenario with a trigger or source module that supplies the URL, such as a submitted URL from a connected app. Make scenarios connect modules, and outputs from one module can be mapped into later modules. If the input might be a shortened link and the next service needs its destination, use Make’s Resolve URL action, which follows redirects and returns the final resolved URL.
2. Retrieve the page’s Open Graph information
Add OpenGraph.io’s Site Lookup action. Make describes it as getting Open Graph information from websites. Run the module on a representative input and inspect the actual output before mapping fields: returned values depend on the service and the page, and a page may omit metadata or expose an unusable image URL.

3. Decide whether to reuse or create an image
- Reuse the existing image: Map the returned image URL into an HTTP download step if you need the image file. Make also lists image metadata extraction, resizing, and format conversion actions for processing image files.
- Create a designed card: Map the returned title, description, and other available values into reusable HTML/CSS, then send that markup to Make’s HTML/CSS to Image action. It converts HTML/CSS to PNG, JPG, or WebP.
- Capture the page: Use Make’s separate screenshot-of-a-URL action when the webpage itself is the intended output.
4. Send the result to the destination
Map either the generated or downloaded image, or a usable public image URL, into the destination app. For example, Make lists Google Docs actions to insert an image using a URL or replace an existing image with a URL. Do not assume another destination accepts the same input type; verify its module requirements.
Designing a repeatable card with HTML/CSS
For a branded preview, treat the card as a template and map only fields that the lookup actually returns. Keep a fallback for missing titles, descriptions, or images so one sparse page does not break the scenario. Make’s documented HTML/CSS to Image action supports PNG, JPG, and WebP output; select the format based on what the receiving module accepts. The cited Make listings do not establish fixed social-image dimensions or guarantee how a particular platform will display an image, so confirm the destination’s current requirements separately.

Handle URL and metadata failures
- No Open Graph values: Add a route or filter for absent fields and decide whether to use a fallback, capture the page, or stop the run. Test representative URLs rather than assuming every website publishes metadata.
- Image URL cannot be downloaded: Check whether the address is reachable by the workflow and whether access controls or authentication are involved. An image URL in metadata does not guarantee that the file is accessible to the next module.
- Redirected or shortened input: Resolve the URL first when a downstream step needs the final destination, then pass the resolved value onward.
- HTTP request rejected: Make’s HTTP app requires HTTPS and rejects unverified self-signed certificates, according to its HTTP documentation. Use an HTTPS endpoint with a verifiable certificate.
- Destination rejects the output: Confirm whether it expects an image file or a public URL, and whether the chosen format is accepted. Do not map a temporary or inaccessible URL where a retrievable image is required.
- Unexpected fields or blank card: Inspect the module’s output from an actual run, then adjust the mappings and fallback logic to match the returned structure.

ScreenshotNeo can return a webpage screenshot with one GET request; see the API documentation. For example, this cURL command saves a WebP capture of the supplied URL:

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers indicate the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server includes tools for AI agents: take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
