To create a gaming montage in Cross Clip, first make at least two individual clips. Then open My Clips, select the clips to combine, and choose Create Montage. Streamlabs’ guide, updated October 8, 2025, lists a maximum of three clips per montage on Free and six on Pro; check the current limits and export options in Cross Clip before you start.
What you need before making a Cross Clip montage
Cross Clip assembles clips you have already created; montage creation is a separate step, not the first step in editing. You can start from a Twitch or Kick clip URL, or upload a video file from your device. Use a source file you are allowed to use. Do not rely on Cross Clip to download a video directly from YouTube: Apple’s listing says that ability was removed in app version 2.6.0 on September 17, 2024. - Have at least two source clips ready. Streamlabs documents montage creation for two or more existing Cross Clip clips. Streamlabs’ Cross Clip guide.
- Check the upload-size limit if importing files: the plans page lists up to 100MB on Free and up to 1GB on Pro. Cross Clip plans.
- Decide where you intend to post the finished montage. Choose a canvas suited to that platform, and check its current video specifications before exporting.
Create and edit each clip in Cross Clip
- Import footage. Paste a supported Twitch or Kick clip URL, or upload a video file from your device. Cross Clip’s app listing describes both clip links and video uploads as import routes. Apple App Store listing.
- Choose the output format. Select the canvas or platform-oriented format you need. Keep in mind that changing the canvas can crop or leave unused space around the gameplay, so check the composition rather than assuming the original framing will fit.
- Position the gameplay and camera. In the editor, drag and resize the gameplay and face-camera boxes so the important action, interface details, and camera remain visible in the chosen frame. Streamlabs describes adjusting these regions in the editor. Streamlabs’ Cross Clip guide.
- Set the segment duration. Adjust the timeline slider to select the portion to keep. Make the start and end points deliberate: a montage can feel abrupt if the action begins mid-moment or ends before its payoff.
- Refine the layout and layers. If the regions do not fill the output canvas, Streamlabs says a blurred background is available. Add or arrange layers if needed, then preview the clip with editor borders hidden to judge the actual composition. The guide says Pro supports up to six editor layers; confirm the current entitlement in the app.
- Save the individual clip. Repeat the import and edit process until at least two finished Cross Clip clips appear in My Clips. The montage flow starts from those saved clips.
Combine clips into a montage
- Open My Clips.
- Select the clips you want in the montage. Choose an order that makes sense as a sequence; check the selection carefully before compiling.
- Click Create Montage.
- Choose the available frame rate and output quality. Streamlabs says these are selected before compilation. Its guide identifies 1080p/60fps as a Pro feature, while the app listing describes 720p and 1080p options. Availability can vary by plan or app version, so verify the options shown in your account. Streamlabs’ guide · Apple App Store listing.
- Start compilation and wait for the completion notice. Streamlabs says it emails a download link; completed clips are also available in its mobile app for download and sharing. Streamlabs’ guide.
- Download and review the finished file before posting. Check the transitions between clips, framing, audio levels, and that the export matches the destination platform’s requirements.

Troubleshooting Cross Clip montage problems
- Create Montage is unavailable or no clips are selectable: make and save at least two individual Cross Clip clips first, then look for them under My Clips.
- Your upload is rejected: check the file size against the limit for your plan (100MB Free or 1GB Pro, as listed on the plans page accessed October 3, 2026). If the file is too large, use a smaller permitted source file or another supported import route.
- The gameplay or camera is cut off: return to the clip editor and reposition or resize the gameplay and camera boxes for the selected canvas. Preview with editor borders hidden before saving.
- The output option you expected is missing: the app listing and Streamlabs guide describe different export details. Check the current choices and plan entitlements in the version of Cross Clip you are using rather than assuming every option is available to every account.
- You cannot import a YouTube video by URL: Apple’s version history records removal of direct YouTube downloading in version 2.6.0 on September 17, 2024. Use a video file you are authorized to use or a currently supported clip URL instead.
- You have not received a download link: check the email address associated with your account and its spam folder, and check the mobile app for completed clips. Streamlabs describes both email delivery and mobile-app access.
Use footage you have rights to post
Editing a clip does not grant permission to use its gameplay, music, broadcast audio, or another creator’s camera footage. Use your own footage or material you are authorized to publish, and check the relevant platform’s current copyright rules. Cross Clip’s import and montage tools do not guarantee that a finished video will comply with YouTube or another platform’s policies.
