Start with a canvas that matches your stream, keep labels readable and restrained, and preview every graphic in the actual scene before going live. For conventional widescreen production, OBS recommends 16:9 resolutions such as 1920×1080 or 1280×720.
Decide what the graphic needs to do
Give each graphic a clear job: identify a speaker, label the current topic or score, show a sponsor mark, or create a starting or break screen. Keep the stream’s main content dominant. Decorative frames, animations, and social labels should not compete with the material viewers came to see.
Before designing, list the information viewers need and remove anything that does not help them follow the stream. A small number of purposeful elements is easier to read than a crowded layout.
Set the canvas to match your stream
Choose the graphic’s dimensions to match the output canvas or target scene. For conventional widescreen content, OBS Project recommends a 16:9 resolution such as 1920×1080 or 1280×720 in its Aspect Ratio Guide. These are production settings, not universal requirements: use the dimensions of the scene you are actually building.

- 15 Customizable LCD Keys: instantly control your apps, tools and platforms.
- One-Touch Operation: trigger single or multiple actions, launch social posts, adjust audio, mute mic, turn on lights, and much more.
- Visual Feedback: know that your command has been executed.
- Powerful Plugins: Elgato 4KCU, OBS, Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, Discord, Spotify, Philips Hue, and many more.
- Hotkey Actions: streamline your film editing, music production, photography workflow, etc.
A design with a different aspect ratio may be cropped or distorted when fitted to the scene. OBS warns that stretching can warp the source, so create for the target canvas where possible and inspect the result in OBS rather than assuming a scaled graphic will look right.
Choose how to add the graphics in OBS
Use image and text sources for static elements
For a logo, title card, label, or other static asset, add image and text sources directly to the OBS scene. Arrange them in layers above the video sources they annotate. OBS’s BRB scene tutorial demonstrates a layered setup with a background image, text overlay, and game capture.

This approach keeps individual elements available for scene-level placement and adjustment. The trade-off is that each image or text element is managed as a source in the scene.
Use Browser Source for webpage-based layouts
OBS Browser Source can load a local page or a URL inside a scene. Its configurable viewport dimensions and frame rate make it suitable for webpage-based graphics, including layouts that are dynamic or easier to maintain as a single page. See the OBS Browser Source guide for its settings.

Native Linux system plug-and-play support is not available, while SDK development documents are provided for custom secondary development
Because the source depends on the page rendering as intended, check the local file or URL, viewport size, and visible content in the scene before broadcasting.
Use a design service if you prefer a visual editor
A design service can provide a visual editor or template-based starting point. Canva describes creating stream overlays and exporting them for broadcast software, and recommends 1920×1080 on its overlay design page. Treat that as a tool example, not a requirement; verify the service’s current export choices and terms before relying on them.

Make transparent overlays and animations work
If an overlay element should reveal the video underneath, export it with transparency and confirm that the broadcast software supports the chosen format. Elgato’s overlay guide gives PNG as an example for static transparent overlays and WEBM for animated overlays. These are examples, not a guarantee that every export, animation, or software version will behave the same way; test the exact files you plan to use.
Check that transparent areas remain transparent after export and that animation starts, loops, and stops as intended. An opaque background or unexpectedly large animated element can cover the video or distract from it.

Best Value
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Keep the layout clear at different sizes
- Protect the main content: position frames, social bars, and labels away from important action or information.
- Prioritize contrast: make text easy to distinguish from its background, including when the underlying video changes.
- Allow for resizing: a stream player and browser can change size, so avoid layouts that only work at one exact display size. Twitch’s extension design guidance advises designing for resizing.
- Use motion sparingly: animation can draw attention to a useful change, but constant movement may compete with the stream itself.
Preview the complete scene before going live
- Open the OBS scene that will use the graphic and confirm the base canvas and output dimensions.
- Check each source’s placement and scale. Look for stretching, cropping, and elements that cover key content.
- Verify that areas meant to be transparent reveal the video underneath, and that text remains legible over the actual background.
- Switch through every scene that uses the assets. Check animation behavior and any browser-based content in its intended viewport.
- Adjust the layout before broadcasting if anything is hard to read or distracts from the main content.
This preview checklist follows from OBS’s scene and aspect-ratio controls; it is a practical workflow, not a claim of measured engagement results. Platform safe areas and display behavior can vary by destination and device, so check the chosen platform’s current creator documentation where placement constraints matter.
Or let it run in the cloud
Graphics are only one part of a broadcast. If you also want an uploaded-video stream to stay live on YouTube while your computer is off, StreamNeo runs it from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and sends to YouTube only.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video or playlist from the cloud.
- Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required; one free day is available per account.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
