To create an image with Meta Muse, open Meta AI on a surface where Muse Image is available, describe the image you want (or start from a photo), then refine it in the conversation. Meta says you can download the result or share it to a chat, story, or feed; the exact controls depend on the product surface.
Availability is not universal. At its July 7, 2026 launch, Meta listed the Meta AI app and meta.ai, Instagram Stories in the US, and WhatsApp in limited countries. What you need before you start
Muse Image is Meta’s image-generation feature in Meta AI. Meta describes it as able to create images from a text prompt or work from an existing photo. The July 7, 2026 launch announcement named the Meta AI app and meta.ai, Instagram Stories in the US, and WhatsApp in limited countries; Facebook was then listed as coming soon. Those are launch details, not a guarantee that every account or region has access today. Look for the feature in the Meta AI surface available to you.
Meta says everyday creation with Muse Image is free. That statement does not establish subscription terms, generation limits, or pricing for other Meta AI services.

How to create an image with Meta AI
- Open Meta AI where Muse Image is offered. Use the Meta AI app or meta.ai, or an eligible Instagram Stories or WhatsApp experience. Available surfaces and controls may differ.
- Describe what you want. Write a prompt in ordinary language, including the subject, setting, style, composition, and any important details. For example: “Create a cozy reading nook beside a large window, with warm afternoon light and a green armchair.” Meta’s examples also include creating from scratch, editing a photo, removing a background photobomber, and making a QR-code graphic; these are vendor-described examples, not guarantees of a particular result.
- Or start with an existing photo. If the surface offers photo input, select or upload an image and describe the change you want. Meta says Muse Image can edit images and combine multiple references, but editing precision and output quality can vary.
- Use a preset if you need a starting point. Meta says presets can help when you are unsure what to ask for, with examples such as restoring a family photo or trying a different visual style.
- Review the generated result. If it is not what you wanted, continue the conversation with a specific adjustment, such as changing the lighting, removing an object, or shifting the style. Meta describes the experience as conversational, so follow-up requests can build on the earlier context.
How to refine an image
Ask for changes in plain language, then inspect the next result. For a more localized edit, Meta describes a markup control that lets you circle, sketch, or annotate the part of an image you want changed. The control’s placement and availability can vary by surface; use it only if it appears in your version of Meta AI.
Meta also describes Muse Image as able to generate text within visuals and follow instructions. Treat those as capabilities, not assurances of exact wording or factual accuracy: check text, details, and any important visual elements yourself. Do not rely on a generated QR-code graphic until you have tested whether it scans correctly.

How to share or download the result
When you are satisfied with the image, use the controls shown on your current surface. Meta says Muse Image results can be downloaded or shared directly to chats, stories, or feeds. The route and available destinations can differ between the Meta AI app, web, Instagram, and WhatsApp, so follow the share or download options presented with your result rather than expecting identical buttons everywhere.
What changed about Instagram account references
Do not try to generate an image by @-mentioning someone else’s public Instagram account as a reference. Meta withdrew that method in its July 10, 2026 update, saying it was “no longer available.” The earlier option is not a current workflow. Meta’s updated announcement and the Associated Press report of July 11, 2026 describe the change.

What Meta says about image provenance
Meta says images generated with Muse Image in Meta AI and meta.ai include Content Seal, an invisible provenance signal. Meta says it remains intact through cropping, compression, resizing, or screenshots, and described a detection tool preview in its July 7, 2026 Research post. These statements are scoped to the named creation surfaces; they do not establish that every image shared from every Meta product carries the signal, or that a signal alone proves authorship.
