Choose a post format for the response you want
| Format | Useful for |
|---|---|
| Text | A short update or question; text can also accompany media, subject to format-specific combinations. |
| Image or GIF | A visual update, behind-the-scenes photo, or announcement. |
| Poll | Inviting viewers to choose among options. |
| Quiz | Checking what viewers know about a topic. |
| Video | Pointing viewers to an existing video. |
| Playlist | Sharing a collection of videos. |
This is a practical way to match a format to your goal, not a claim that one format will perform better. The exact choices and combinations can depend on the device and current interface.
Image requirements
YouTube’s listed image requirements allow up to 10 images in a post, with each image up to 16 MB and in JPG, PNG, GIF, or WEBP format. YouTube suggests a 1:1 aspect ratio because images appear square in the feed.
Polls and quizzes
Polls and quizzes have limits on options and characters. Check the current composer for the applicable limits rather than relying on a figure that may have changed.
Where viewers may see a post
Posts may appear on your channel’s Posts tab or Home tab shelf, and may be distributed in viewers’ Home and Subscriptions feeds. Image posts may also appear in the Shorts feed, and subscribers may receive a notification. These are possible placements, not guaranteed delivery or reach.

Plan posts around your video schedule
YouTube recommends a regular posting schedule that complements video uploads. Ideas include asking viewers which video they want next, teasing an announcement, sharing behind-the-scenes photos, promoting a collaboration, or making a members-only post where channel memberships are available. These are prompts for planning, not promises of engagement.

Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for keeping uploaded videos live on a YouTube channel; it does not create or schedule Community posts. If you also want a prerecorded video stream to run continuously, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
