To schedule a YouTube radio stream for weekdays and weekends, plan the program blocks first, then create a separate scheduled broadcast in YouTube Studio for each airing. You can reuse stream settings when the encoder setup is the same, but check the date, time, title, description, privacy and other copied details each time. YouTube’s documented workflow does not establish a built-in weekly recurrence that alternates playlists automatically.
Here, “playlist schedule” means the music or other programming sent into a continuous live stream. A YouTube playlist that organizes already-published videos is a different thing; the steps below schedule live broadcasts, not playback from a channel playlist.

Plan the weekday and weekend programming
Start with an editorial calendar rather than trying to make the schedule inside the encoder. Choose broadcast times for your audience and write them in one clearly identified time zone. There is no universal best time established for every channel.
- Set the weekday and weekend program blocks, including start and end times.
- Give each airing a title and note what content the encoder will send during it.
- Decide who will start or monitor each broadcast.
- Choose the visibility and promotion plan for each upcoming event.
If the channel has one continuous feed, the weekday/weekend distinction is a programming decision: it describes what enters the encoder at each time. Scheduling a broadcast in Studio does not by itself select or rotate music tracks.

Create a scheduled broadcast in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then open Manage and select Schedule Stream. This is the documented encoder-broadcast path in YouTube Help.
- Create a new stream or choose Reuse settings if the encoder setup is the same. Review the copied values rather than assuming only the date changes. Reused settings may include metadata, the stream key, and Auto-start or Auto-stop selections, as described in Manage live stream settings.
- Enter the scheduled date and start time, then verify the time zone, title, description, visibility and other event details before saving.
- Repeat the process for each weekday and weekend airing that needs its own public event. The documented route is to schedule individual broadcasts; it does not establish a native weekly recurrence control that alternates programming automatically.
Reuse the encoder feed without confusing it with the broadcast
YouTube distinguishes the scheduled public event from the incoming feed. In the API model, a liveBroadcast represents an event, while a liveStream represents the video feed sent to YouTube. Google’s guide to broadcasts and streams explains that a channel can bind scheduled broadcasts at different times to one stream resource; shows with different needs or overlapping schedules may use distinct stream resources. Reusing an encoder configuration or key does not create the next public event for you.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the scheduled event’s settings into your encoder, or use the existing encoder configuration if it is intended for that feed.
- Treat the stream key as a credential: it allows the encoder to send the feed to YouTube. Do not expose it in a public schedule or share it with people who should not control the feed.
- Start sending the feed and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. For the documented scheduled-broadcast workflow, inspect the preview and select Go live when ready.
- Follow the current prompts in Live Control Room for broadcast state and encoder data. Auto-start and Auto-stop settings can affect how the encoder starts or stops an event, but they are not a weekly scheduler or a track-rotation feature.
Promote and verify each airing
Scheduling creates an upcoming broadcast that can be shared and promoted. YouTube says viewers can receive reminders for upcoming streams and creators can share the URL; viewers may see an option such as Notify me. See YouTube’s encoder scheduling instructions and its live stream settings help.

- Open the upcoming watch page and confirm its date, time, title and visibility.
- Share the correct event URL with viewers rather than relying on an older airing’s link.
- Before each show, verify the program content and that the encoder is sending the intended feed.
What this schedule does—and does not—automate
The YouTube Studio method is appropriate when a person can prepare individual events and initiate or oversee the encoder workflow. Google’s API documentation describes a model for working with broadcasts and streams, including recurring-event architectures, but an API concept is not proof that the Studio interface will automatically make a weekly schedule for a channel. Check the current Studio interface before relying on any newly available recurrence option.
This workflow also does not schedule a YouTube channel playlist to play as a live radio feed. If you need tracks to change automatically inside a continuous broadcast, that requires a playback or streaming setup that supplies the content; the scheduled broadcast entry alone is not the playlist player.

Troubleshooting a weekday/weekend schedule
- The wrong event details appear: Reused settings can carry over metadata and other selections. Reopen the event and check its title, description, privacy, timing and program assignment before publishing.
- The encoder is sending data, but viewers cannot watch the scheduled event: Sending the feed and starting the broadcast are distinct parts of the workflow. Check the Live Control Room preview and follow its current prompt to go live.
- The wrong program plays: Studio scheduling does not establish automatic playlist rotation. Confirm that the encoder or playback source is set to the intended weekday or weekend content.
- The next week’s event was not created: Reusing stream settings is not the same as recurring event creation. Create the next broadcast unless the current interface or a separately configured API workflow explicitly supports the automation you need.
- The encoder cannot connect: Check that it is using the stream URL and key for the intended stream. If a key may have been exposed, manage or replace it through YouTube’s stream settings.
