Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteUse n8n’s Google Sheets Trigger set to Row added, map the new row’s URL into a screenshot renderer, then save the returned image to Google Drive or another destination. You can add a Gmail notification after the file is saved. The key distinction: a new row is a Sheets event; a new spreadsheet file in Drive is a different trigger.
How the workflow fits together
The workflow has four jobs: detect the new row, pass its URL to a renderer, store the resulting screenshot, and optionally notify someone. n8n’s Sheets trigger includes Row added, Row updated, and Row added or updated events. Choose Row added when only newly created rows should start captures. See n8n’s Google Sheets Trigger documentation.

ScreenshotOne documents an n8n integration for rendering webpages as screenshots, PDFs, scrolling screenshots, and videos. Its changelog announced the n8n capability on June 26, 2025. The workflow below uses a screenshot image; the renderer and destination can be changed to suit your needs.
What you need before building it
- An n8n instance with Google Sheets credentials connected and permission to read the target spreadsheet.
- A spreadsheet with a header row and a column containing a complete, reachable webpage URL. The documented template uses a column named
Url. - A ScreenshotOne account and access key if following its documented node/template route.
- Google Drive permissions if storing screenshots there, and authenticated Gmail if sending a notification.
Keep renderer credentials in n8n’s credential management rather than putting an access key in a shared spreadsheet or embedding it in workflow text.

Build the row-added screenshot workflow
- Create a workflow. In n8n, add a Google Sheets Trigger node and select the Google Sheets credentials that can access the file.
- Choose the spreadsheet and sheet. Configure the document and worksheet where rows will be entered. Use the correct header row so n8n exposes the URL column as a named field.
- Select the event. Set the trigger event to Row added. Choose Row updated if edits should make a new screenshot, or Row added or updated if both should. Those alternatives can produce additional captures when data changes.
- Add the ScreenshotOne capture step. Use the ScreenshotOne n8n integration described in its n8n documentation, authenticate with the access key through n8n, and configure the page URL from the incoming trigger data. For the documented example, map the
Urlfield; if your header differs, select that field instead. - Choose capture settings. Configure viewport or device emulation and any delay needed for the page to render. ScreenshotOne’s template calls out viewport, device, and delay settings as configurable options. Use a scrolling/full-page capture when the required output is longer than the initial viewport and the integration’s available options support it.
- Save the image. Add a Google Drive step after capture and map the returned image/binary data into the file field. Choose the destination folder and a filename that helps identify the source row, such as a combination of the row’s URL and an available row identifier. The exact binary property name depends on the node output; inspect the capture node’s output and map the image data it returns.
- Optionally send a Gmail alert. Add Gmail after the Drive upload and include a link to the saved folder or file. The documented template uses a folder link in its notification.
- Activate and validate. Add a fresh row with a valid URL, then confirm that the trigger receives the intended URL, the renderer returns an image, Drive contains the screenshot, and Gmail sends the expected link if enabled.
Adapting the published n8n template
n8n’s template, “Capture URL screenshots from Google Sheets with ScreenshotOne & save to Drive with Gmail alerts”, demonstrates URL extraction, screenshot capture, Drive storage, and Gmail notification. Its documented trigger, however, watches for a spreadsheet file added to a Google Drive folder. That does not mean it fires when a row is added to an existing Google Sheet.
To use its later steps for this task, replace the Drive-file trigger with the Google Sheets Trigger and set the event to Row added. Then confirm that the incoming data has a URL field, preserving the template’s Url mapping or updating it to match your header. Retain or adapt the ScreenshotOne, Drive, and Gmail steps and re-check each field mapping, since the trigger output is now a row rather than a Drive file.

Map the URL and handle row data safely
Make the column name match
Use a clear header such as Url and enter a complete URL, including its scheme (for example, https://). If your header is called Website or Page URL, select that exact incoming field in the screenshot node rather than assuming the template’s Url field exists.
Decide what happens with incomplete rows
Rows may be added before every cell is filled in. If that is possible, place a condition between the trigger and capture step so the renderer runs only when the URL field is present and non-empty. Decide separately whether to skip malformed URLs or route them to an error/notification branch; otherwise a bad value can stop a run or create an unhelpful failure.

Avoid accidental recaptures
Use Row added for one capture per newly added row. If you select an update event, changing unrelated cells may cause another screenshot. If repeated captures are undesirable, include a status field such as Screenshot saved and design the workflow so it does not process a row already marked complete.
Choosing capture behavior and output
| Need | Configuration approach |
|---|---|
| Capture only what first appears on screen | Use a viewport screenshot and set the viewport dimensions or device emulation appropriate to the intended view. |
| Capture content farther down the page | Use a scrolling or full-page capture option where available; allow the page time to render any lazy-loaded content. |
| Keep an auditable image archive | Save the image to a chosen Google Drive folder and use a filename that associates it with the row. |
| Let a person know when it finishes | Add Gmail after the file upload and include the resulting Drive link. |
These choices are independent: the Sheets trigger determines when a run starts, the renderer determines what is captured, and Drive or another configured destination determines where the result goes.

Test the complete path before relying on it
- Use a test row with a URL you can open and a recognizable page.
- Run or activate the workflow and inspect the trigger output to verify the expected URL field is populated.
- Inspect the renderer output to confirm it is image data rather than an error or an unexpected response.
- Open the saved Drive file and check that its dimensions and captured portion of the page meet your needs.
- If Gmail is enabled, check that the notification link opens the intended file or folder.
Repeat the test with an empty URL and, if relevant, a row edit. This confirms that your validation branch and selected trigger event behave as intended.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No run starts after a row is entered | The trigger is watching the wrong spreadsheet or worksheet, or is set to a different event. | Confirm the selected document and sheet, credentials, trigger activation, and Row added event. A Drive-file trigger detects a new file, not a row in an existing sheet. |
| The renderer receives an empty URL | The mapped field name does not match the sheet header, or the row was incomplete. | Inspect the trigger output, use the actual header field, and add a non-empty URL check before capture. |
| The screenshot step fails authentication | The access key is missing, invalid, or not available to the node. | Recheck the n8n credential configuration and account access; do not paste the key into the sheet. |
| The screenshot is blank or shows an unfinished page | The page may be unreachable or may need more time to render. | Try a known reachable URL, then adjust the renderer’s delay or related capture settings. Validate the renderer output before sending it to Drive. |
| Drive receives no usable image | The upload step may be mapped to the wrong output field or binary property. | Inspect the screenshot node’s actual output and map the returned image data into the Drive upload step. |
| Several screenshots appear for one row | The trigger is configured for updates as well as additions, or the workflow processes a row again. | Use Row added if edits should not trigger captures, and add a completion/status check if reprocessing is possible. |
| The Gmail message has no useful link | The notification runs before upload completes or uses the wrong Drive output field. | Place Gmail after the Drive step and map the link returned by that upload. |

Instead of wiring a screenshot renderer into n8n, you can call ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API accepts one GET request with a URL and returns an image or PDF. For an n8n workflow, pass the row’s URL into an HTTP Request node using this request pattern; keep your API key in n8n credentials or an appropriate secret field. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I trigger screenshots when a row is edited instead of added?
Yes. Choose Row updated or Row added or updated in the Google Sheets Trigger, depending on whether new rows should also run.
Does the Google Drive template trigger on new rows?
No. Its documented trigger watches for a spreadsheet file added to Drive; replace that trigger with the Google Sheets Trigger for row-based automation.
Can I save something other than an image?
The ScreenshotOne integration documentation also lists PDFs, scrolling screenshots, and videos; configure the output and downstream storage step for the format you need.
