To run a rotating mantra playlist on YouTube, build a playlist in OBS Studio using its VLC Video source, enable Loop Playlist, and send the feed to YouTube with your stream URL and key. Add Shuffle Playlist if the order does not matter. OBS and the streaming computer must remain running for this do-it-yourself method; YouTube may not archive a stream that runs longer than 12 hours.
What you need before you start
- OBS Studio and VLC installed on the computer that will run the stream. OBS’s VLC Video source supports Windows, macOS, and Linux; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS media sources documentation.
- Mantra audio and any video, artwork, or background footage you plan to include. Confirm you have the necessary rights to each component, not only the recording.
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. YouTube live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A reliable, continuously running computer and internet connection. OBS is the encoder in this setup; closing it or losing the connection stops the feed.
Build and loop the playlist in OBS
- Open OBS Studio and select the scene that will carry the stream. In Sources, click + and choose VLC Video Source.
- Create a new source, name it, and open its properties. Add the media files you want in the playlist. Arrange them in the order you want if you are keeping a fixed sequence.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS will restart at the beginning after the last item ends.
- For a different order each cycle, enable Shuffle Playlist as well. Choose loop without shuffle for a predictable devotional progression; choose both for variety when order is unimportant. OBS documents both behaviors in its media source guide.
- Check that the source appears in the preview and that audio meters move when a file plays. If the video does not fill the canvas as intended, select the source and use OBS’s transform controls to fit it to the scene. Test the playlist before scheduling a public broadcast.
Connect OBS to YouTube and start the live stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream. Scheduling can give viewers a page to visit and let them set reminders. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your stream.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream details as prompted. Use the URL and key associated with the stream you created.
- Click Start Streaming in OBS. Check the Live Control Room preview and status before sharing the scheduled event or leaving the stream unattended.
- Keep OBS, the computer, and the network connection running for the intended duration. Watch OBS’s connection and dropped-frame indicators and YouTube’s dashboard for warnings.
Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
YouTube’s live-stream terms make the creator responsible for holding the rights needed to use the live content on Google services, including music licensing rights. That can include rights to the composition, recording, artwork, and footage, depending on what is used. Read the YouTube Terms of Service and confirm permissions for every component before streaming.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If a match is identified, YouTube may replace the feed with a placeholder and interrupt or terminate the stream if the material remains. A license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption: if you have licensed the material, YouTube advises asking the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Will YouTube archive a 24-hour stream?
Do not rely on YouTube to retain the full recording of a 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping the entire broadcast matters, make a local recording and check that you have enough disk space before going live. Details: YouTube live-stream archive guidance.

Can a looped mantra stream be monetized?
Being technically able to loop a playlist does not make it eligible for monetization. YouTube’s policy says repetitive or mass-produced material can be classed as inauthentic content and is ineligible for monetization. Add genuine original value rather than relying on a repeated playlist, and review the current YouTube channel monetization policies. Eligibility also depends on YouTube’s review of the channel and its content.
Common problems and fixes
- The VLC Video source is missing or fails to play: install VLC and restart OBS. Match VLC’s architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- The playlist stops at the last file: reopen the source properties and confirm Loop Playlist is enabled.
- Items play in the same order every time: enable Shuffle Playlist if sequence is not important.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: check that the stream URL and key match the current broadcast, then confirm OBS is streaming and the connection is active.
- The stream is interrupted despite permission: contact the rights holder and request that the channel be added to its Content ID allowlist; monitor YouTube for copyright notices.
- The full-day replay is missing: a broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use a local recording when a complete archive is essential.
