A vCard QR code lets someone scan your contact information and save it as a contact. To make one, choose a QR generator with a vCard or contact-card option, enter only the details you want to share, generate the code, and test the downloaded image on the device and in the setting where people will scan it.
What a vCard QR code contains
A vCard is a standardized format for representing and exchanging contact information. The IETF’s RFC 6350 describes fields such as names, addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers, and specifies UTF-8 encoding for vCard content. A QR code made from a vCard carries contact details in a form that a compatible scanning device can recognize and offer to save.

How to make the code
- Choose a generator with a vCard option. Look for a contact-card or vCard choice rather than a generic text-only QR code. The available fields and export options depend on the generator.
- Enter the details you want to share. Common fields include your name, organization, phone number, email address, and website. Leave out information you do not want available to anyone who scans the code.
- Generate and download the QR image. Follow the service’s instructions. For example, QRCode.io describes PNG and SVG downloads; use the format suited to the destination, such as a PNG for many everyday digital uses or an SVG when a scalable graphic is useful.
- Place it where your audience can scan it. A business card, badge, sign, or stand can carry the image, and you can also share it digitally.
- Test the final version in context. Scan the code from the actual print or screen before distributing it. Keep clear space around it and avoid placing it against an edge or over other graphics. QRCode.io advises that denser codes may need larger print sizes; treat that as the service’s guidance, not a universal size rule.
Choose between a static and dynamic code
A static QR code contains the contact information itself. If those details change, you generally need to create and distribute a replacement code. A dynamic code instead points to a destination that can be changed after printing, according to QRCode.io’s product guidance. That flexibility depends on the service continuing to operate, and the vendor describes dynamic codes as a paid offering.
Before choosing a dynamic option, check the service’s current price, what happens if a subscription ends, and whether it collects scan data or analytics. Those terms vary by provider; QRCode.io’s feature description does not establish universal pricing or program terms.

Protect the details you encode
Anyone who can scan the code may be able to access the contact details it contains. RFC 6350 states that vCards have no inherent authentication or confidentiality provisions, though they can be carried by security mechanisms that provide those protections. For a QR code displayed publicly, include only information you are comfortable sharing broadly. Also plan to replace or update the code if the encoded contact information becomes out of date.

QRCode.io says its generator uses vCard 3.0 and claims that version has broader phone support than vCard 4.0. This is the vendor’s compatibility guidance, not a guarantee for every phone or scanning app. Testing the finished code on the kinds of devices your audience is likely to use is the practical way to catch problems before sharing it widely.
